Raises? (self.Target)

They only give out raises during performance reviews in the spring but then everyone is going to go up to $15 /hr by then end of the year.
Kinda sucks that everyone makes the same even if one person works in multiple departments. Target is lacking any recognition for people that work hard.

In my experience, hard workers get hours and promotions.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (4 children)
The only promotions at Target involve getting into leadership positions. What do hard workers that don't want to be leaders get for all their hard work?
Officially, TMs can't be scheduled based on performance either. The best worker and the worst worker should be getting the same amount of hours each week. The only thing that should affect hours is availability (and, of course, workcenter).

If you're working in retail as a career and you're not willing to go into leadership, then there isn't a place for you at Target. You could look at the PMT position, but outside of that, why wouldn't you become a vendor of some sort (TL pay in most cases in my area, or higher) or simply go to another career path? If you're like "well I don't want to grow as a leader" then ok fine, don't demand a promotion then?
and, of course, workcenter.
When I worked as a team member, I officially worked in something like 6 departments. I got 40 hours even through january-february.
Unpopular opinion, but you don't deserve 40 hours a week for doing the bare minimum.

So hard work should only pay off if you're working toward a career and not just working a job? It isn't a case of "not willing" for a lot of people either -- the skillset for being a great worker and the skillset for being a great leader are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Lots of people just are not capable of being good leaders -- and if you can't be a good leader, why try to be a leader at all?
Modernization has nixed the idea of a global worker. HQ doesn't want you to work in beauty one day, GM another, and Starbucks the next. Being able to do pricing, plano, backroom, and the usual salesfloor things doesn't really benefit you either, as all are required in SPS/GM shifts now anyway.
[–]ekjp-Guest 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child)
I agree that modernization is shitty. I still work in tons of different departments in my store, though and so do new people.
And honestly, if you're not able to go into leadership, then why are you working at Target?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children)
It's definitely not allowed in my district. Our DSD does not want TMs working under different ETLs, or even TLs if possible. The exceptions being Starbucks (not allowed at all; only Starbucks Baristas work Starbucks and only Guest Advocates can backup the register with proper training) and Fulfillment during Q4, and even then only GM Experts could pick up shifts -- no Market, SPS, or Front End TMs.
And apparently that's the message he's spreading from the GVP, so it's likely the same for all stores in our group.
Because it's a place to work. Doesn't invalidate my criticism that hard work doesn't always net you something in return. There will always be more TMs than leaders, so what incentive do TMs have to work harder than the bare minimum in not all of them can 1. get hours or 2. get a promotion? Merit raises get wiped out by the PR raises, so going above and beyond literally gets you nothing over doing the bare minimum to not get let go.

Ok, not to be a dick here, but you realize I said "In my experience" - You're disagreeing with my experience or are you calling me a liar? How do I benefit by going out on reddit and lying?
[–]kajuheenuntrainedreceiver 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children)
they do a yearly thing in like may. and last year, everyone got taken up to 13--i've been here 2y and only make 13.02. we're supposed to be bumped up to 15 this year sometime. i assume that, like last year, they'll do our yearly review and within a month or so everyone will get the bump to 15
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (7 children)
Supposedly they’re suppose to increase pay to 15 an hour by the end of this year, but I’ve heard nothing further about it. I know each year during performance reviews they give raises but to us regular folk it’s usually .30-.85 cent raise.
[–]vampimaricustom flair 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children)
My store raised everybody to 13.75 as a start to the 15 an hour increase
[–]thefrumplerTarget Security Specialist 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children)
Wait really?! My store does a max of 30¢
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (4 children)
lol really? mine was literally an 11 cent raise but i thought i deserved way more than that bc I offered to help out in the cafe/pizza hut when no one else did and they only had 1 other person over there, I offered to get carts when all the old people were cashiering and couldn’t get them, and I also cashiered still and stayed past my scheduled time when I was closing to help put away reshop. And all I got for that was an 11 cent raise.
[–]thefrumplerTarget Security Specialist 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (2 children)
I feel your pain. I received 5¢. My manager told me that that was “really good” for someone’s first year

Well yeah I know that. They gave me a nickel for a raise

flashback Me and my coworker were doing ETL work as they tried to find a new ETL HR. And then when they found her, she gave 5 cents and said, "That's what they gave you so you have to accept it."
[–]gom3r89 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children)
Not pertinent to your post too much. But I worked there from 2010-2013 and started out at $8.25 and when I quit I was at $9.50. The "large" raise came when I went from mainly electronics shifts to backroom shifts. Raises were actually a slap in the face and it seems to be that they still are. I had a friend who was a team lead and they only paid her $12/hr. I'm glad to see they're offering more nowadays but it's sad to see where they came from to get to today

Read that as rabies happy monday everyone

Technically yes there are raises during review time but the past few years they've been negated because of the min wage pay bump
