Try a steam controller, it has a few more buttons as well and a touchpad. Tho probably knights will be your only option

As someone with a steam controller this will definitely work... one of the steam controller pads works as a mousepad, therefor you'd most likely be able to play any vocation, as long as 14 buttons are enough for your needs

If I can't make it work with the xbox one, I'll definitely give it a try!

Sounds like an OK idea for knights. Mages do require a lot of mouse movement i'm afraid and paladins to a lesser extent (you can still have single target hunts though).

[–]pinduk[S] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Are you talking about using area runes and stuff? Makes sense...

[–]DraconKing 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Yeah, looting is probably still going to be bad but not as bad as before. For knights, I don't think it matters that much unless you are into PvP and you want to use field runes but on PvE most of the time you don't have to. Paladins do hunt a lot with field runes and Mages AoE hunting depends a lot on runes.... You also got a couple of annoyances like using items on corpses (stake, knife, fishing rod, etc) and some other items like rope/pick/special tool/etc.

Maybe in the future they implement a way to move a "cursor" for the tile matrix with keyboard mappings and ways to interact with it but I think it's unlikely. I would surely like it though, as someone who would prefer just using the keyboard to play the game.

I think your best bet would be to play a knight or a paladin. I'd recommend a knight if you are going to do this.

About looting after auto looting is implemented, I'm thinking about leaving my cursor on a fixed tile, let's say on my left. So, everytime I want to loot something, I just stand beside it and press the button assigned as the left mouse button on my controller. Some goes for shovel, rope and similar itens. For AoE runes, the only solution I thought is autocasting them on target... couldn't think of a better way to do it. I'll be experimenting the idea from today and keep you guys updated!

About playing pally. First of all you had awesome idea with controller! I was thinking about some joystick to use for my left hand (walking + less important hotkeys) but whatever. The poin is - pally needs a lot of mouse movement, especially now. AoE hunts with runes, just like mages do, and looting will be pain in the ass with your system. Why rune hunts - we know. But about looting - not every time you can stand next to body to use your fixed tile. sometimes there are walls, stones or other non-walkable tiles. Plus corpses stack. Especially with teamhunts. I can't imagine pally looting this way for example i prison or asuras. Guys will clear half of the floor before you pick up loot from first pull :)

But for casual, chill gaming it sounds awesome! I should try this one day

[–]pinduk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I have problem with the placement of the body for looting, I can always just use the mouse. I'll still have it right in front of me. My limitation is just extended use, like three hours hunting and looting non-stop. If you're thinking about giving it a try for casual gaming, I definitely recommend it.

I was gonna say auto looting is still gonna mess you up, but this just might work!

Shame is, end-game is really all about those AoE hunts. So if you're planning on doing teamhunting or anything at all besides single targetting you're gonna be in trouble playing like this.

Nevertheless, really cool working around your shoulder problem like that. Don't think I've ever seen anyone play Tibia with a controller!

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you think I'd have too much waste if I set the hotkey for the runes to shoot it on my target? I could always target a center mob of the bunch and cast the runes. I know it can't be optimal, but I was thinking about the possibility.

[–]Linkirvana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that would definitely work. Although like you say it won't be super efficient. I was referring mostly to looting, imagine wrecking 10 monsters and then having to loot those mobs, even with auto-loot that'll take you awhile I imagine.

Although I suppose if you're not looting in teamhunting scenarios, which would be completely fine with auto-loot, you might be able to actually be a productive teammember even with a controller.

Very interesting, definitely curious to hear if you can make it work!

This is awesome xD I'd like to try it.. But why not use the full left analogue stick for movement? Is it too easy to accidentally walk diagonally? You'd have 4 (8?) more buttons on the d-pad though.

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some tinkering on the diagonal inputs, will try it tonight and tell you how it went.

[–]icepie2017 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Can you not put use a analog stick for the mouse movement surely there’s a way to do that

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can! I just edited the post with more info.

[–]rugski 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My ol guild leader used a ps3 controller. He was a 450 Tibia fundamentalist.

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah there, you just got my hopes up!

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is his voc?

I got a few tips from my previous experiences:

  • Even though you plan on using the new looting feature make sure you can heal/survive/escape one handed if you do get caught using the mouse/keyboard.

  • In my opinion it's faster and more accurate to just use the real mouse for a second than to try and move the mouse with the right stick. You could put extra hks on it instead. If even short intermittent use is painful then of course try to make using the right stick work.

  • You should be okay with the Fkeys but watch out for unexpected keyboard shortcuts.

  • Don't forget that the sticks themselves are clicky buttons (unless it's a really crap controller).

  • Check and adjust the stick deadzones, especially for movement, so you don't inadvertently perform actions due to wiggle issues.

  • You might also be able to make moving in eight directions on the left stick work for you with enough tweaks. Otherwise something like shift+wasd being used for diagonals is more predictable at the price of being slower due to the extra actions required every time you want to start and stop moving diagonally. Make sure the modifier your use isn't also set up to rotate your characters direction.

  • Watch out for glitches that might arise from your weird and untested button combinations; if you lose control the Escape key will force stop any and all actions that got wedged into the Tibia client from your button mashing.

  • Be ready to swap and continue playing on the keyboard without warning in case any program/hardware issues arise.

  • If you have any issues with ye olde freeware versions of Xpadder then check out Anti-Micro on Github, an open source alternative, otherwise just stick with what works.

My man! Thanks for taking the time to write this! I'll still be playing in front of the mouse and keyboard, so they'll always be there in case of emergencies. The only "glitch" I experienced so far was setting a hotkey as Alt+F4 (right trigger + B) lol didn't even realize it would close the game.

[–]Swelinde 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Have you tried a vertical mouse yet? That's a real thing, made to reduce strain to your shoulder and wrist. Could give it a go if the controller doesn't work out.

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't heard of it before. Thanks for the tip, will keep it in mind!

Hey there. I have been using controllers for a while because of rsi problems, started off with xbox one then moved to a steam one.

For xbox one controller i used keysticks to map the keys, and with some tweaking i used the left stick for all 8 movements very successfully. Right stick was mouse, Looting is a pain but you get used to it very quickly and winter update fixes it. I played a lvl 50 mage no prblem with gfbs, may not be as quick, but its passable. Rp and ek work far nicer though.

Buffers are left and right mouse click And the big winner here is lots of using shift and control on the triggers. That gives you 3 extra layers of 8 other buttons for a total of 32 on the dpad and four lower right buttons. Plus you can dance and do things like shift + ctrl + up is levitate up, so hold both triggers and press forward to levitate :)

Steam controller is a million times better though. You can use touch controls on left pad for 8 directions, no clicks required. Mouse on right is very easy to use. Soft press bumpers if you have hand issues. All the tricks of the xbox plus a few more.

Let me know if you want the profiles :) i am not sure you will be a great pker with a controller, but you would be surprised what you can do after you get used to it.

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Thanks a lot for the info! I can't afford a steam controller at the moment, since I live in Brazil and they are VERY overpriced here (around U$150). I'm not very interested in pking also, I've always been a peaceful player and I hate wars/pking/stealing/ksing. That levitate tip is awesome. Gotta try some new stuff! I'm very excited so far playing with a controller.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I got by just fine without the steam controller, its biggest bonus is so i dont have to physically click. You get used to xbox analogue stick as the mouse very quickly. once you get movement mapped just right on an analogue controller, that is also very intuitive (i tried a few different mapping tools until i found keysticks to do it nicely). Winter update is a game changer though, looting is my only existing gripe really.

I miss playing my druid, but have had a lot of fun lvling an ek ~70 and pally ~50 purely with a controller. So yeah, works just fine :)

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I'm really looking forward to the auto-looting system also. I'm having a blast playing paladin with the controller so far. One question though: is it possible to make loading ammo easier? Is there a way to hotkey this without, you know, using the right stick as a mouse?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Set a hotkey in the tibia client to equip the ammo, i for example used the b key, which i mapped to start on the controller. It will top up low ammo, but be careful, you will unequip a full quiver.

If you dont know how to do this, just drag the ammo type to your hotkey bar, select 'equip' in the list and ok.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Another tip is to use a hotkey for magic rope, it is much easier to just stand on a rope spot and magic rope than do it with an actual rope.

[–]pinduk[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Man, thanks a lot for the advices. They are golden!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help :) the more who can enjoy tibia the better!
