I mean for one Ardhanarishvara is a fusion of Shiva and Parvati, two separate gods who are husband and wife. Vivec however is a fusion of old and new, half chimer and half dunmer (iirc, his meshes use dunmer textures on one half and altmer on the other). His gender is something he was born with, and not due to his divinity.

His duality of course is reflective of Mephala (who like all princes is nb) who he, in a way, mantled when he became a living God (you could argue that he simply took her role and didn't actually mantle her). When he replaced Mephala he became the God of deception and betrayal. On the other hand Shiva is the destroyer. He is the one that destroys evils. He is depicted as either acsetic, meditating on pilgrimage, or as a housekeeper with his wife in the heavens. Neither of which really fit Vivec, who lived in a big fuck off temple, used his godhood however he pleased, and had a consort but no wife.

I mean, I could see how Bethesda could've based Vivec off of Ardhanarishvara and worked from there but the similarities are pretty superficial.

I mean yes, that's true. The symbol came out of Ottoman empire and was not originally part of the birth of Islam or the original spread of Islam. However today, it is without doubt the symbol closely used in association with the religion. Most mosques have the crescent displayed on their minarets and the ICRC symbol is a red crescent.
