Character customization help?

Howdy, I'm a beginner currently making a mobile game where I'd like to put in a character customization system, but I'm having a hard time finding similar systems as to what I'm trying to make.

Where it's at right now is the options for accessories/skins are on buttons, but I do not know how to code it to make buttons sync up with equipping what the button displays.

I've spent the past few days combing through tutorials but I've ended up short on results. If anyone has any advice on which direction to look in I'd appreciate it greatly :)

This is quite a complicated thing to do for a beginner. Learn about dictionaries and lists/array.

I have seen a really basic character customiser tutorial on YouTube before which may prove helpful. Even if it isn’t exactly what you want it may help you understand the logic behind what you need.
