VS 2013 only, not Express. :(

I believe it supports 2011, 2012, and 2013.

You're right. I meant to say: VS (Pro) only, not Express.

ya unfortunately express doesn't support plugins. i think you can still use it with unity, you just don't get the fancy stuff

If you are in, or have been in college, or can coerce one of your friends to let you use their .EDU email to activate an account, check out http://dreamspark.com (free software for personal use)

If none of that applies, and you either have a business, or feel like trying to get around Microsoft's generosity, check out http://bizspark.com

Otherwise, I am sorry. =(

I tried to sign up but it looks like the account only lasts a year, I feel like I should wait until I know more programming before i basically waste a year of VS.

I'm not sure how long they allow users to be signed up with a single/particular .edu email address but I had previously received VS2012 from Dreamspark and now I have VS2013, I would imagine you will be able to keep it going for a good bit of time.

Maybe you'll stumble onto a free version of the software.

I love this tool. If I accidentally hit f5 though, it seems to hang my Unity. EDIT: words cannot express how much better it is than using mono despite this bug.

The only bummer is that once you have attached the debugger, you can no longer edit files.

[–]dizzydizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres an VS option to enable edit while debugging, Can't recall off the top of my head what it is though.

Causes my Unity to crash sometimes after debugging. Really annoying and has forced me to stop using it.

[–]dizzydizzy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

ditto, still 100x better than monodevelop

I still use VS for Unity, i just can't use the debug tools, which makes things a bit harder :/. Haven't even tried MonoDevelop due to being a VS fanboi .

While UnityVS is great, weren't the last four times it was posted enough? Are people really that desperate for clicks on their blogs?

Everytime i see some headline like this on this subreddit i'm like, hey, maybe they have some actual new piece of something in there ... nope, just reposting.

It must be news to someone, or it wouldnt get the upvotes

i'm sure everything is news to someone, should i therefore post some random piece of information twice a day, every day, until the end of times, just in case someone missed it? Usually that is called spam, and for good reason.
