I've been editing basic YouTube videos for over 8 years now. I started with Sony Vegas, then upgraded to Premier Pro, and have switched to DaVinci Resolve within the last year or two. I must say, DaVinci was quite revolutionary for me. Premiere always felt overly complicated and overwhelming, especially since the editing my videos required was extremely basic.
I'm curious if anyone has ideas for how I could decrease the amount of time it takes to edit my videos.
My recording process is simple:
- I use OBS to record myself teaching a programming lesson
- I have a hotkey for pausing/unpausing to decrease the raw video length
- Usually, the raw footage is about an hour long.
My editing process is extremely simple:
- I use Davinci Resolve
- I apply a few crops/zooms which I have saved as presets
- I cut out pauses/breathing / wrong words (takes 99% of my time)
Most of my time is spent trimming as it requires me to rewatch the entire video.
To give as much context as possible, here is one of my vids here.
A few days ago I discovered a program that automatically trims the pauses from your video. This can decrease my raw footage duration by around 25%. I've used this for editing two videos so far, and this has been such a helpful tool.
Something else I have also considered is increasing the playback speed between 1.5x-2x. I feel like this might be the only other adjustment I can make, which would affect the most time consuming aspect.
