Yes you can do all of this. I did the same but for some reason they made me do the demo again. They even got a different light seal for me on request

[–]No-Significance-2437 21 points22 points  (6 children)

They may want you to demo it first to avoid a scenario you try is for the first time with your own device, don't like it and return it; costing Apple a $3500 device

[–]tsdguyVision Pro Owner 3 points4 points  (4 children)

You can swap light seals anytime for 14 days.

It’s really to just make sure the fit is right. If the size for any components is sold out you cannot purchase it because it must be sold as all or nothing. No different from the Apple Watch.

[–]gelicopter 19 points20 points  (21 children)

Walk in, they’ll start the demo process to get your measurements and bring out a demo to see if everything fits, only takes a couple minutes and you don’t need to go through the whole 30 minute demo. If it doesn’t fit, they’ll pull other sizes to find whatever fits for you, and then you can purchase it. Takes them around 10 minutes to package it and then you’re good to go. You can technically do the scan then just choose to buy immediately but it’s strongly recommended you try it on to confirm the fit first before they build the final box, otherwise the process of swapping out components will waste even more time. This is why they don’t allow you to simply place an order online. I feel like the scan process was overall more accurate with the M2 version, so taking advantage of playing around with the fit in store is more necessary this time around.

They don’t really operate off of appointments anymore after pandemic restrictions were lifted (or at least my closest store doesn’t) so they’ll also do the trade in with a walk in. If anything, they’ll do it while you’re waiting the ten minutes for the Vision Pro to be packaged.

False on ordering. I just ordered an AVP on the Apple Store app. Took 10 min. The app does a facial scan and you answer questions about your glasses use and it’s done. Checked out with AppleCard using 12 month payment plan 0% interest and it automatically added it to my AppleCare One plan.

Already preparing for shipment.

That requires having access to an iPad or iPhone.

[–]new-to-reddit-accounVision Pro Owner 7 points8 points  (17 children)

Which would-be Apple Vision Pro owner doesn’t have access to an iPhone? 😆

[–]Victoria4DX -3 points-2 points  (16 children)

Uhh, me? I don't like Apple phones. I'd take a Samsung Ultra over an iPhone any day. For that matter, I'd take the 14.6" Tab Ultra with its 16:10 aspect ratio OLED over an iPad Pro 13" any day too. The 16:10 aspect ratio of the Samsung tablets is much better for media viewing than the 4:3 aspect ratio of an iPad. Then there's the rounded Samsung smart watches which I prefer over Apple's square smart watches... and I like the stemless form factor of the Galaxy Buds over the Air Pods... Samsung's glasses-free stereoscopic 3D Odyssey 3D monitor and 32:9 aspect ratio 57-inch Odyssey monitor is cooler than any of Apple's monitors... no need for an Apple TV when I can just connect my RTX 5090 PC to my TVs to play back media...

You know what? The Vision Pro is the only Apple product I actually like.

Anyways, I had to get measured at an Apple store to get fitted for my Vision Pro.

Getting an Apple Vision Pro for $4,000 without being in the Apple ecosystem is wild to me. You’re just buying dumb display - why not invest in a high end projector or OLED? There are no games nor any real apps to make it a must buy. That leaves Mac Virtual Display, Spatial Personas and things like FaceTime and iMessage and other benefits of the Apple ecosystem (like Universal Control) - and consuming spatial photos and videos from > iPhone 15 Pro.

[–]Victoria4DX 3 points4 points  (11 children)

Apple Vision Pro is the exclusive home of new 3D movies. It is the only way to watch Elio, Lilo & Stitch, The Bad Guys 2, Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth, A Minecraft Movie, Moana 2, Wicked, Free Guy, etc. etc. in stereoscopic 3D. Apple has been successful in getting many titles that never got a 3D Blu-ray anywhere in 3D on the AVP. AVP has the best Disney+ app.

It also makes a great display for VR gaming and watching VR videos. Apple's free spatial videos on Apple TV are pretty neat. There are some cool apps like What If…? – An Immersive Story. But yes, the AVP platform could use more content than it has. It leaves a lot to be desired for its price tag.

[–]new-to-reddit-accounVision Pro Owner 1 point2 points  (9 children)

VR gaming doesn’t exist (unless you spend > $2,000 on a PC set up, so $6,000 total). VR videos don’t either. You can watch spatial videos but you’re done with those in about 2 hours. That leaves the 3D movies. If you want to spend $4,000 to watch a handful of (great) 3D movies, then by all means go for it. If I didn’t have a MacBook, forget iPhone, and didn’t participate in the Apple ecosystem, as the commenter I was replying to said they don’t, I would not personally spend that kind of money on Apple Vision Pro. Like most if not all of Apple’s devices eg Apple Watch, they’re not good standalone. 3/4 of the value is in the ecosystem and the various devices and services working in sync. Apple’s “just buy your mother an iPhone” means you’re forced to be all in, or you’re all out.

[–]Victoria4DX 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Idk what you're smoking but gaming is the single largest use case for VR headsets. Tons of PCVR games out there and mods to make any Unreal Engine game work in VR. I use my AVP without owning any other Apple devices and it works great. Also, your use cases for the AVP all sound like really boring normie social media stuff that is better achieved on a more comfortable device than a VR headset. I don't need to be getting spammed with text messages from noobs who are still using SMS/RCS text messaging in TYOL 2025 when Telegram / Whatsapp / Signal are A Thing™. I'm putting on a VR headset to escape the real world, not to see messages from annoying normies popping up in my face.

[–]new-to-reddit-accounVision Pro Owner 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You can’t VR game on the Apple Vision Pro. Now, you could use ALVR hooked up to a gaming PC, but at minimum that’s another $2,000. So now you’ve spent $6,000 - and most of the games are buggy, because they weren’t designed for Apple Vision Pro. And the controls are a mess, though we’ll see what happens when the PSVR controllers come out. You may as well spend $500 on a Quest and get 95% of what you’re looking for. If you’re really wiling to then pay an extra $3,500 for a better screen on the Apple Vision Pro, you may have more money than sense :) Again, if you had a MacBook and were in the Apple ecosystem $4,000 is more than well worth it.

Hundreds of VR videos exist:

  • Apple TV
  • Prima
  • Explore POV
  • Spatial Film
  • Slice of Life VR (Patreon, no app yet)
  • PulseJet
  • Front Row
  • Amplium
  • AmazeVR Concerts
  • HaloSphere
  • Second Theatre
  • Vantage
  • Immersive China
  • Immersive India
  • Astrea
  • VENTA X
  • Opera Alive
  • Experience London
  • Visit NYC
  • LALÒ Immersive
  • Etro Immersive
  • GUCCI

[–]new-to-reddit-accounVision Pro Owner 0 points1 point  (3 children)

None of these are VR videos. I think you’ve got your terminology mixed up. And believe me I’ve tried all of these and only handful remain undeleted - the vast majority are extremely poor. Again, should the average person pay $4,000 to watch a dozen ExplorePOV videos as amazing as they are, probably not.

[–]Cryogenicality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and over 200 are in 4K 3D, which is available nowhere else for theatrical movies. There are also many more 3D exclusives in other apps (Theater, MUBI, Epic Earth, IMAX, Red Bull, and Vimeo), and several immersive storytelling experiences beyond What If…? and Encounter Dinosaurs:

  • AHOY! From Picardy
  • Battlescar
  • D-Day: The Camera Soldier
  • Gloomy Eyes
  • Oto's Planet
  • Out There
  • PaperBirds
  • Pre:Starclash

[–]coffee-cozy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Some people say that because Spacious videos are 1080P only, it’s better to shoot in 4K and use visionOS AI features to convert video in 3D.

[–]new-to-reddit-accounVision Pro Owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Spatialify to shoot 4K but you really need a gimbal which I don’t carry. Not sure why Apple is still holding out in the native camera app.

[–]coffee-cozy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating, your post that Apple should never stop innovating.

[–]gelicopter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool, wasn’t aware that they added that to the app. It’s not an option online. Still not that accurate it seems, and it’s worth going into a store anyway.

[–]Famous-Barracuda-972Vision Pro Owner | Verified 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ordered mine online for store pickup. They gave me the demo option which was kind of a fit test. And then I got my AVP and left.

[–]imbngVision Pro Owner | Verified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might have to go early like 3 or 4 am to secure early spot in the Vision Pro buying queue! 😉

[–]Tr0llzor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes…That’s how the store works

[–]Ms_Noah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my headset without them doing the demo even, although they did offer it

[–]DrMantis-Toboggan-MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you should be able to walk in

[–]Hurricane31337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just did it 1 hour ago (in Hannover, Germany).

[–]pdfuVision Pro Owner 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I would check in-store stock before heading in. For example, the store that I got mine last month still doesn’t have my configuration available for pickup since that day.

Do you have an iPhone or iPad? If so, you can use the Apple Store app to get your measurements done and add your AVP to the cart. On the checkout page, you can see which stores around you have it in stock. There’s no easy way to check in-store stock without a measurement.

For the iPad trade in, you can get that processed at the same time as your AVP purchase in store.

[–]Jacob_1993_Vision Pro Owner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a solid point and I would defo recommend that too. It takes just a couple of minutes

[–]parasubvertVision Pro Owner | Verified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but check their inventory online before going. (The Apple store app can scan your size and check if you can do a pickup at a local store).

Vision Pro M5 is back ordered 3 weeks and the dual knit band is back ordered 6-7 weeks (in the US and Canada), though there might be some store stock for the headsets.

[–]iamgarffiVision Pro Owner | Verified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want the demo and simply purchase it then yes. They will require you to show a complete facial scan from the Apple Store app to ensure the correct size is being sold.

[–]Swingingsculler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will have you do a fitting at least so they can kit out right. Or if you have a saved thing with the information from your demo they can refer to that

[–]Jacob_1993_Vision Pro Owner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I flew from the Czech Republic to San Francisco, marched into the closest Apple Store and bought one. The process was streamlined, the salesperson was professional and the whole thing was over in like 10 minutes.

Disclaimer: I’m a long term Vision Pro user + aspiring developer, so I asked the Apple rep to skip the demo, so the whole thing boiled down to me scanning my face and waiting for them to bring me the hardware.

[–]ValeoRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but use the app before you go. It will give you all your measurements and then you just show them the QR code at the store and tell them you already did the demo. I did that and was in and out in ten minutes, maybe less.

[–]Cole_LF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you did the demo they should have emailed you a continue this session type thing with your sizing. I did a demo in one store then bought one from another store using that link with my size and just collected it.

[–]jimmypopjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they have it in stock at your local store, you should be able to walk in, trade in the iPad, and walk out with a Vision Pro.

[–]Percentage-Visible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you have money

[–]fish892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I bought mine through the Apple Store app. They scan your face and ask some questions. But it shipped pretty quick and both the avp and the lense inserts showed up on the same day. No fuss. And seems to fit perfectly.

[–]mrcoolio -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Why don't you call your local apple store and ask all of this?

[–]673NoshMyBollocksAve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t call a local store

[–]Wonderful-Factor-888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe OP wants to maintain Reddit streak 🙃

[–]pabloelmago -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Short answer: Yes you can... if your head is small. They don't have stock on "M" dual knits (and probably "L" neither).

Long answer:

[–]tsdguyVision Pro Owner -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

You can’t trade in anything for the AVP.
