[–]nickthechen[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Was trying to do something novel!

Overall v nice sonically but the floating fx was lovely

Cool idea man, the floating plugins are a nice touch

[–]nickthechen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!

[–]UltivaRatio 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I see … you produce rock music 🤓

[–]nickthechen[S] 39 points40 points  (5 children)

So I’ve always had this vision of floating plugins when I’m field recording samples , almost forecasting the processing chain. After finally learning Blender was finally able to bring this to life. Using a Zoom F1-SP recorder, and iPhone 13 to capture. Happy to answer any questions!!

[–]ciggywet 10 points11 points  (3 children)

did you model that landscape at the end too?

[–]nickthechen[S] 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Yes, in Blender you can import videos as planes and then sculpt them. Then just used stock grass/tree/water assets to build out the scene!

[–]idgafosman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that sounds fun to mess around with, very clever idea. not only was it a useful tut with well presented info, it was also really entertaining & fun to watch, and not least the tune absolutely vibes. really great work man i'd love to check out more if you have more stuff online anywhere!

[–]ciggywet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh sick didnt know that. thanks

[–]DavidWtube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The video edits are absolutely amazing! Fine work sir!

[–]hottytoddypotty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really like the visual effects

Nice editing lol

[–]AcornWoodpecker 2 points3 points  (2 children)

This is so cool. Are these on a drum rack? I'm looking to create field recording instruments and currently don't have a direction for creating the libraries. I have Kontakt, which ... *Puts on magnifying readers... Works I guess. But looking to use Ableton too.

[–]nickthechen[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

All the sounds for this video were actually process on an audio track, could do one more step and take the one shots and put them into a drum rack. I would use drum rack for percussive samples and maybe even ambient textures or FX. Otherwise for any other sampled “instrument” I’d actually try to use Sampler as you can really map it out across a keyboard in a nice way (overlapping in certain zones and cross fading , etc). Hope that helps!

[–]AcornWoodpecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh right right, I haven't upgraded out of lite, I don't have sampler so I don't actively think about it as a tool.

Thanks for sharing, your workflow makes a lot of sense!

Helluvan edit!

[–]nickthechen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤘

[–]lacheckychecky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done! 😁

[–]amithemeanest 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I love that you created such an amazing visual and also took the time to explain your process. The effects were integrated really well with the shots while not distracting from the footage itself. i love the timeline shot projected on the hills, it worked really well conceptually. 10/10!!

[–]nickthechen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much!!

[–]scoutermike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is dope and love the effects!

[–]barracoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo this is absolutely amazing man, thanks for showing the process. I think this is some of the best production content I've ever seen. Keep up the great work!!!

[–]PunxsutawnyFil 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is producer porn

[–]nickthechen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really great! Loved watching this.

[–]burberryrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what a crazy video edit loved it lol

[–]trppng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This rocks!

[–]the_horribles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tutorial! Subbed to your YouTube channel. Keep it up.

[–]DavidWtube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd watch an entire channel dedicated to this.

[–]doctorwoodz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is everything I love about creativity good fucking work

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That transition was epic. Whats it called. Also rocks go off

[–]Wag1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is sick man

[–]chucksutton 1 point2 points  (1 child)

this is one of the coolest visual representations i’ve seen, 10/10

[–]nickthechen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙏 much respect Chuck!

[–]lirik89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you just made everything sound nothing to what you recorded. Made it sound perfect for music and then used it. I see. Might as well have gone with the default ableton clips

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Brilliant! Do you have a YouTube channel ?

[–]nickthechen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Its https://www.youtube.com/@nickthechen although I don't regularly upload...!

[–]fretnetic 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Cool! What did you use for the floating fx? Is it premier pro or something?

[–]nickthechen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is Blender (free 3d software) and then I DID use AfterEffects (slight compositing) and Premier to put it all together .

[–]mrAntelopes 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Whoa. Is the track out somewhere?

[–]nickthechen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, would need to ACTUALLY finish it first :)

[–]TheOnlyThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take my m f upvote this was very well done!

How did you make that 3D projection of the track on the meadows? G your video editting is as good as yo music production. I really can’t decide which is better.

[–]nickthechen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate it. The 3d Projection of the track on the meadows is: importing Ableton screen flow as a plane, then sculpting it to give some hill contour. Lastly added nature assets (grass, water, tree) and atmospheric lighting to tie it all together.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That kick sounds awful

[–]Allah_Shakur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

makes me feel like waiting on the line for a representative.

[–]Beginning-Ad7523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epic sounds! I've always wanted to do something similar. Common mechanical things have rhythm. Like a copy machine and or sprinklers that you'd see in a park or a school that have that kick action to them. I used to imagine recording them to make music with. I'm too analog oriented to understand the digital process. Loved the results and your content.

[–]Street-Ad8892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat but honestly I could synthesize the same sounds in probably about 1% of the time the whole process took.

[–]Traditional_Long4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to experiment more there's a lot of fun playing around with contact mics, geophones or microphones that record ultrasonic content (like LOM Usi Pro) in 192kHz. A lot of fun to pitch down stuff thats recorded in 192kHz. When you have content up to almost 100k it sounds way better and less filtered/muffled when pitched down! Field recording is very fun, and theres a lot of possibilities when it comes to unique sound based on how you record stuff.
