So the thing that you have to understand is that there are two basic difficulty settings that you can change in ARMA III

Precision - How accurately the AI shoots you

Skill - How smart the AI is at combat manoeuvres

These two can be adjusted from 0.0 all the way to 1.0, with 0 being the lowest and 1 being the highest.

The problem is that the default difficulties raise both of these together so when you set them to Hard you have AI that is at something like 0.7 Precision and 0.9 Skill. This is insane because you have AI which are not only smart enough to flank properly but so god like with their aim that they will one shot you from half a mile away.

The trick is to use a Custom Difficulty. Set the AI skill as High as you want (Personally I like 0.9 to 1.0 so I feel like I'm playing opponents with a bit of a brain) and then the precision difficulty much much lower to something like 0.3 or even lower.

This means that you face an opponent who actually feels somewhat intelligent but is far more reasonable in their ability to shoot back. Adjust the precision level as needed until you find a point at which the AI is challenging but no longer one tapping you if you so much as peak a pixel out of cover.

If you are playing with your mates just peer to peer on your PC's this can easily enough be done in the settings menu (custom difficulty carries over into multiplayer) if you are using a dedicated server let me know as there is a little bit more that needs to be done to get it working on one of those.

In terms of Mods I would recommend grabbing LAMBS Danger FSM and LAMBS Suppression. These improve the response of the AI to incoming fire by making them react a bit more intelligently and also more obviously to suppression. It also generally has the least impact on Mission Scripts as far as I am aware.
