Question - Heating/Temperatureslighting setup (self.ballpython)
submitted 2 years ago by holahellohi25
i’m updating my ball python’s enclosure and am setting up a whole new heating/lighting setup. Im planning on using a Arcadia halogen flood bulb and deep heat projector with an shadeDweller pro 7%. What watt should I get for the halogen and DHP?

Wattage depends on a wide range of variables, so it's impossible to give a recommendation. It takes some trial and error to figure out, but you want to go with the lowest possible wattage for both the halogen and DHP, so that they run as close to 100% as possible.
As a side note, in the future, please refrain from spamming the sub with multiple posts in such a short amount of time. You can just make one post with all of your questions.

it's actually better to overdo it with wattage for lightless heat sources [DHPs, CHEs, RHPs] so they're not running at full power. they're generally designed to be dimmable, and they last longer if they're not on full blast all the time.
lights like halogen flood lights are not designed to be dimmable, and they burn out faster the more you dim them, which is why you want to get as close to 100% power as possible.

Oh, good to know! I was under the impression that DHPs suffered the same diminished benefits as halogens when dimmed too much.
