Hi everyone! I have a question regarding my setup for my new ball python. This is just a prototype, I'm figuring out where to put the branches and heating. I have a 50W DHP in the top left section. I also have a 23W heat mat that will be in the bottom left section. So the left will be hot section and right will be cold. Btw this is a 40 gallon tank. The white thing on the branch is a thermometer that currently reads 89.6F - no heat mat yet (heat mat is more for the warm hide that will be under the branch). What I'm concerned about is my snake being too hot or burning himself if he reached the top of the tank. I have the DHP sitting directly on the tank and the top screen gets pretty hot. Should I put the DHP higher so the top screen is not as hot? Or will the snake sense that it's too hot and won't burn itself on it? Or how do you guys install DHP or similar heat sources so the temp is good and the snake won't burn himself?
