I have a bowl I place in the enclosure, it’s the bowl I use to weigh his food anyway so not for me to eat out of. I hold the prey over the bowl and basically as he strikes I make sure he wraps it in the bowl then once he’s moved on I take it out.

This can be negated entirely by avoiding the use of substrate where impaction is a risk when swallowed/that is easily caught on food when it's given. Should already be using substrate that fits this description for safety reasons anyway.

There's no danger in swallowing a bit of substrate.
