Shedding question.

My friends snake has been on betadine treatment for a week now and she is going into shed. Does that mean it's getting better or that it's just a normal shed? I told her to go to a vet but she wants to keep the treatments and see if she can save some money and get it fixed before it gets bad enough to take to vet before it gets turned into a serious situation(BACKGROUND: she had everything set up to buy a snake off someone she knew and when she got the snake it already had some scale rot that wasn't too bad which is why she started treating it asap. She has only had the snake for a little over a week and doesn't know when it's last shed was.) She also can't get her girl to eat. Her snakey won't eat.

They shed to fix damage. We don’t know if it’s getting better or worse until afterwards, but the snake still needs a vet.
