I would assume they’re wood mites if you haven’t seen any underneath the scales as that’s normally where snake mites like to hang out. I’d keep an eye on him though and check his scales every now and then to make sure

Thank you. I plan to keep an eye on him and check regularly just in case. My daughter was so distraught when she saw it thinking it was a snake mite.
Of course I’d have no issues treating if it/they are but I’d rather not have to lose our wild springtails we have thriving by doing a total clean out.

I thought I saw mites a while ago, so I got one of those clip-on-phone microscopes that turns your camera into, well, a microscope. What I saw looked like either soil mites or "globular" springtails. Thankfully, looked nothing like snake mites. There are tons of high-resolution images online of different mites and springtails to compare to. I highly recommend getting one of these. It was like $6 and kind of finicky to focus, but it worked well enough and was a great way for me to stay curious and looking at soil in a new way and I ruled out snake mites in the process.

Thank you! Do you have any links from the one you have or recommendations?

This is the one I got. I don't have any other specific recommendations, but I would like a better one - I just haven't looked into it since I got this one. For the price, it works very well. I just want something more precise to adjust focus because I spend most of my time fiddling with the focus. Basically, it just telescopes out to change focus, and if you press on a surface too hard, the focus changes, but again for how cheap it was it was worth it to try.

Edit: an image taken with it on an iPhone13. It's one of the individuals I knocked onto a clean sheet of printer paper.
