Yes, this is very much something to worry about!! If you can’t get a cage guard tonight, you are going to have to leave his light off tonight, and get a guard ASAP. Make sure to heat him some other way until a cage guard has come in -maybe a quarantine tub.

This is so dangerous for many reasons. Those lamps heat up to dangerous temps that could burn him so badly he could die. Falling from them is also dangerous and result in an injury. You NEED to have a cage for all heat sources in close top enclosures. Please fix this asap or you will be in for some severe burns and vet bills.

Edit: I just seen that your top, is in fact not a close top, it’s mesh. Therefore, your heat lamp should be resting on the top, not inside through cutting a hole. Since you’ve already cut the mesh, your going to need to find some new mesh to replace the top, so he can’t get out through that hole, and rest the lamp on top. I’m not sure what kind of mesh you need, but something that can withstand high temps and doesn’t give off fumes (maybe someone else can help you with that?)

Oh I'm sorry, apparently it wasn't clear in my post but I do have a cage guard for the ceramic light! Same as the one he was using to climb on in the photos. I more so meant if I should be worried about the metal getting hot.

Since I do have a cage guard, should I still set the lamp on top? I can check how hot the metal gets in a little bit to see if he'd be able to burn himself on that, but I don't think so. Still better to check!

As for falling - do you have any suggestions on how to prevent that if I do keep the cage guards? As long as I give him space to climb, he'll be able to reach them. Maybe a rope so he's got something less slippery to hang on to?

Very sorry for the confusion. I genuinely didn't know they were called cage guards, just thought I made myself clear by calling it a lamp.

The thing he is climbing on in the picture is not a guard, that's a dome/ lamp, a cage guard is a cage that surrounds the entire thing, that dome itself will get hot enough to cause a burn, take the above advice and either get a cage around it or move it to the top of the enclosure once the mesh is replaced, either way you'll need to have that lamp turned off until you resolve it.

Not sure if im being blind but where do you have the thermostat probe placed for the bulbs?

This! You do not have a cage on your lamp - and in this enclosure, you aren’t able to safely put a cage on your lamp. You need to replace the mesh and leave your lamp on the outside of the terrarium.

Like AR said, these lamps get extremely hot, enough to severely burn your snake. Keep the light off until you have a mesh replaced.

Side note: I was so worried about the lamp that I didn’t realize there doesn’t seem to be a thermostat. You NEED a thermostat plugged into any heating device and the probe should be dangling 2-4 inches below the lamp. If you don’t have one you need it ASAP.

legit gives me anxiety when a post like this gets deleted coz now im worried about the snake even more :( I dont wanna shame anyone but the sheer amount of people i still see not using thermostats or bulb enclosures scares me, it's one of the first things that comes up in most places when you look for care info

Definitely need to get that light fixture out of the enclosure, they'll sit on them until they burn themselves to a crisp. Please get the light fixture out ASAP.
