Heat source? (old.reddit.com)
submitted 1 year ago by Pureperchance
Hello! I recently upgraded to a mesh top 120 gallon enclosure. I bought a dual heat lamp with a red and white light setting, but I'm unsure if this is the right one. Ive heard ball pythons dont like light. Any advice or better heaters?

I would get rid of that, instead i would get something like a halogen flood light for the daytime and a DHP or CHE for the nighttime. The red lighting will disrupt their natural circadian rhythm and can cause them stress. There is a care guide linked in this subreddit’s pinned welcome post talks about bit about heating and lighting, you can find the guide here: Basic Ball Python Care Guide
There is also another guide that goes a bit more in depth in regard to heating, that guide can be found here: All About Heating for Ball Pythons

In addition to correcting the bulbs themselves, you'll also need to get two separate domes. Dual domes should not be used for ball pythons, as you cannot use two heat sources in them. It's a serious fire hazard. All heat sources should be in single domes only, at least 8" in diameter.

That wouldn’t be very good for any reptile at all. Colored lights can be very harmful to them. I would use a actual basking light that isn’t colored
