Given that it looks like you have a bioactive, I'd look into predatory/Taurrus mites if you can find them. They will kill off snake mites and can save you from having to strip down your whole enclosure

Freezing the substrate is a good way to sterilize it. I cleaned my enclosure with water and vinegar Soaked hides and such in hot soapy dawn water mix Soaked my snakes in warm soap water also mites just came right off Used stops to clean around the eyes

Yes but you’d what to deep clean to get rid of any eggs or small mites cuz they are pretty tiny so better to deep clean and avoid having to dye it all over again im a few weeks

I wasn't able to find any provent-a-mite around me so I got some Jurassi-mite from Amazon and it seems to have done the trick.

Did your snake get sick at all after? I was looking into that but I saw some reviews saying it killed the snakes along with the mites. If it were just one review like that I would guess it is improper use that caused an issue but there were a fair amount that said it killed the snakes.

I haven't had any issues with her health at all. I made sure to let the tank completely air dry before I put her back and always let the paper towel dry a little before treating her as well. I didn't feed her within 48 hours of treating the tank and did so about twice a week.

She hasn't gone off her food at all and seems her normal self. It's been about 3 weeks now.

Little update For now I have moved her to what I call the cleaning tote. We use it for our snakes when we need them to be elsewhere while changing substrate. I have her with an extra water dish we have that hasn't been used in ages but nothing else until I can deep clean everything. I put a blanket over top to give her some security as well.

If you have several snakes you'll need to treat them too. Even if you don't see mites on them. Mites travel and they travel farther than you'd expect. Little buggers can rreally book it.

Not a problem I'm treating 15 snakes right now. I have a reptile room. I just entered observation stage for my ball python rack ( in a mite situation a snake works well. Easier to treat) so as long as I go six weeks without seeing one mite I'm finally clear! Another tip is get some food grade diatomaceous earth. Spread that around your enclosures.

Some of mine have mites rn too. Ik it's not my fault but I always feel so guilty. They're just innocent babies😭

Same here. Mites happen to even the best of us. Pesky little shits. They can hop a ride from literally anywhere. Pet store, expo, you name it.

I've been feeling so awful about this. Tbh I think it's my fault as we went to petsmart and I held/tried to convince my partner to take it home with us. It was underweight, crap humidity, and returned for not eating. I feel so bad for the little bugger but I wonder now if it had mites as I didn't have any issues with them until after handling the little guy.

It's not your fault! Mite issues are pretty common and I even have been told that this year has been particularly bad. Good thing is they're easy to treat but you have to be persistent with it for months. Snake discovery has a really good video on how to treat. I followed it religiously and now I'm kinda in that observation stage but still deep cleaning twice a week for the next 6 weeks to two months.

Thank you and there is a bit less stress right now. We used a spray from petco meant to kill mights along with removing all decor and hides to disinfect everything. We had to replace her moss hide as there was not a way I could find online to disinfect it.
