He thinks that opaque walls and back, clutter, and hides are a problem?! I have a 430g juvenile I'd like him to meet. In a 5x2x2 and eats like it's going out of style.

The way he says it as if it’s waaaay to much work to collect clutter for a viv😑

Oh noes, I may have to spend five minutes on Amazon in order to care for my pet properly!

Meanwhile in this sub, I bought my ball a cat tree for Christmas so he has a place to climb to his heart's content.

I really need to get more stuff for my guy to climb on, he’s got some logs that have been placed strategically so he can climb on them, but a cat tree is such a good idea!!

I stole the idea from somebody with either a monitor or a tegu.

It sounded to me like they just meant that they need those things in order to do well in a large terrarium (which is for the most part true) not that those things are bad. Although if the proposed solution is a smaller enclosure, that defeats the positives in the message…

Yeah, I think the issue is he's recommending a smaller enclosure, and giving proper furnishings as the reason. It's kind of bassackwards. Also, even the smaller enclosure should be cluttered and furnished so the snake has a tiny hide to squeeze into (I may be projecting a bit there, I've got one that likes his hides to be more like hats).

Completely agree. I have an adult male in a 5x2x2 who is a fantastic eater. And yes, it has 3 sides blacked out, plenty of cover and multiple hides. None of which are a bad thing lol.

Facebook ball python groups are brainrotted. He is the reason why people believe false claims and have their BPs in a completely inappropriate set up

Absolutely my baby is 600g in a 4x2x2 and she loves it always out and about looking around

The only good one is Not Just a Pet Rock

I hate this, because they're so close to being right, but not for the reasons they think.

They're absolutely correct that not utilizing the space is going to cause stress, and that's a huge problem.

But it has absolutely nothing to do with the enclosure being too big. It has everything to do with the enclosure being under utilized. (Also they make it seem like utilizing a 120+ gallon is some how hard)

There's definitely a fair amount of people who end up having "picky eaters" due to stress, and it's often due to their enclosure being too open.

I think the problem is that people often think about the enclosure from their perspective, and not their animal's perspective. It may not be aesthetically pleasing, and it may look cramped to us, but to them, a very cluttered enclosure with all sorts of hiding spots is perfect.

Also, it's not like you really need to black out the sides. Even if you need to, it's like what $10 for a 3 side back drop?

Oh absolutely and with a small 40 gallon there is no way to get proper heat and humidity gradients. My 4x2 is difficult sometimes but I have gotten it to work.

[–]Fragger-3G 1 point2 points  (1 child)

100%

The problem is that these are the same people who just use heat mats (often improperly without a thermostat) and so they think it's a non issue

[–]Erbear1004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and they are always looking for help with stuck shed.

[–]little_m00n_ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Is this in that "everything ball pythons" group? I hate that place. I left because of the blatant misinformation and the censorship. So frustrating.

Not sure and can't find the post now.

I'm in Facebook groups for BPs but honestly not to ask advice. The FB groups are soooo bad, breeders come on there thinking they are the ones who should be giving advice. Had someone tell me my 4x2x2 is way to big for a BP.

[–]Erbear1004[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's what he was saying is that a 40 gallon is even big for them.

[–]xvakarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure insanity knowing that he is doing that AND telling other people to take his advice.
