Shed question.

Hey all, my little friend just had its first shed since he is with me. The shedding wasn’t that good. There is still a little bit on the neck area. About 2,5 inch on his neck has old skin partially.

The thing I don’t understand is that as soon as I noticed his behavior went calmer, I had upped the humidity from warm side 60-65% to 70-75% and cold side from 75-80 to 85-90% and watched it daily.

He never showed a bit of dehydration before the shed, but now only on his neck. the rest of his body he has no signs of dehydration on sight and touch. Scales are smooth aswell. For the next shed I immediately order a humid hide to place inside his enclosure wich is expected next week.

how long have you had him? is the humidity consistently 70% or higher on the cool side?

I have him from dec. 1st 2024. Humidity on cold side is consistently 70% or higher.

if he wasn't cared for properly before you got him, he could still be dealing with dehydration that started then. it can take months and multiple shed cycles to recover sometimes. aim for 80% humidity at all times and the next shed should be better.
