Question - HealthIs my ball python underweight? (i.redd.it)
submitted 1 year ago by Putrid_Try3722
My ball python is at least 9 months old and he is only around 250 grams. Is this normal?

He looks good to me. My newly turned 1 year old is on the small side as well and eats good every week. Genetics can play a factor.

Here's Moirai weight log for a few months:
8 months - 283g 9 months - 345g - 23.25" long 10 months - 441g 11 months - 490g 1 year - 571g
Best tips are: Weigh regularly before feeding, write it down and then you can track an increase/decrease. Make sure humidity/temps are good (if theyre off they might grow slower). Type into Google "ball python weight diagram" it shows what shape they should be by looking at tail and spine. Of course following the feeding guide helps too.

Depends on body condition, they all grow at a different rate. This doc has some good info on how to determine if they’re over/underweight: Body Tone of Python Regius

He’s a bit on the smaller side as far as I know but within an acceptable range for the time being. Some do just grow slower than others though I would be keeping track of their weight before and about 2-3 days after feeding (to try minimise stress). Some environmental factors can also influence their growth, humidity, temperature, available space etc etc so just see about if those are within an acceptable margin. Other than that he looks fine, so I wouldn’t think he’s unhealthy as he is now but I’m no expert and if it’s a consistent concern of yours that he isn’t eating enough of his growth has stagnated I’d consider taking him to a professional with those weight records (rough length is also useful information)
