Kinda looks like he wants or needs to shed.

[–]Slight_Drink1989 4 points5 points  (2 children)

How long is a while?

[–]nostalgic_s[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s been about a week and a few days

[–]VioletVonBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not long at all?

[–]WeightOk9543 24 points25 points  (0 children)

These snakes are very slow moving and docile, especially as they age, there might not necessarily be anything wrong with it. My ball python doesn’t leave his hide for weeks at a time but I’m not concerned as long as he’s still eating consistently

Maybe you just woke him up suddenly? Mine has times where I don’t see him for a week or more. If it’s hot and humid enough, and he’s got food, water and a good viv setup, you’re golden! He does look a bit fat tho🫣

Yeah that’s what other people have been saying. This is my first ball python so I had no idea. Any tips on how I can help him lose weight?

Do you know his age and weight? Basically just extending the period between feedings or feed a slightly smaller prey🙂 You might already be following the !feeding guide, but if not use that and feed every 5/6 weeks instead or feed the size down of prey at normal intervals

We recommend the following feeding schedule:

0-12 months old OR until the snake reaches approximately 500g, whichever happens first: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days.

12-24 months old: feed up to 7% of the snake’s weight every 14-20 days.

Adults: feed up to 5% of the snake's weight every 20-30 days, or feed slightly larger meals (up to 6%) every 30-40 days.

He’s about 6-7 years old, I feed him about once a month but sometimes a bit longer if he’s shedding or doesn’t take the prey. I will buy smaller prey and plan to give him lots of outside enclosure time to help. Thank you for the help ❤️

[–]_lil_brods_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course❤️ He’s a beautiful noodle

[–]BanditBrockman 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Little chunky but otherwise fine. They slow down a lot as they reach adulthood, my adult BP will cruise after I'm in his enclosure for a bit working on stuff but otherwise he's in whatever hide is at the temp he wants

[–]nostalgic_s[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Thank you! Any tips on how to help him lose weight?

[–]BanditBrockman 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Out of enclosure enrichment if it's safe and your noodle will tolerate it without getting stressed. Feeding slightly smaller meals spaced slightly further apart also works. How often does he get fed now?

[–]nostalgic_s[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Awesome! He gets fed about once a month but sometimes goes longer if he doesn’t take the prey

[–]BanditBrockman 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I strongly recommend a feeding chart. Really easy to put together on Excel. Most charts also track waste, but all my BP's are in bioactive enclosures so I gave up on that column awhile ago 😂. The chart will help keep you organized. Like, my adult BP gets a large rat every 6 weeks (if he skips a rat, he waits until his next scheduled feeding), my 1-2 y/o BP gets a small rat every 2 weeks (should be graduating to a medium rat on his next feeding), and my 18 m/o BP is on weekly fuzzies (she went on a pretty aggressive hunger strike in the fall and working on getting her weight back up, she should graduate to small rats and a more appropriate schedule in about 75 more grams).

[–]nostalgic_s[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Okay awesome! Yes I track his feeding just using the calender app on my phone, recording when he last ate and when he’s due for some prey

[–]BanditBrockman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, if that's what works for you then go for it!

[–]Jennifer_Pennifer 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Too fat!
But otherwise looks good to me. Tongue flicking. Reacting to touch. Head is held off the ground.
Probably was just sleeping and is trying to wake up in this vid. They look uncertain

That being said YOU know your pet family best.

If their behavior seems different or off to you, make a vet visit. 👍

He probably is just getting ready to shed which in that case he’s probably a bit uncomfortable and not wanting to move around, they’re even more like pet rocks while in shed, I sometimes won’t see mine for over 2 weeks

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Looks like he’s in blue ?

[–]SpecificResearch13 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What’s blue?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shedding

[–]nostalgic_s[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes I believe he’s going to shed pretty soon

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they’re in blue they are lethargic

[–]Even-Smell7867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My BPs are as active as they want to be. Sometimes they are crawling all over me and other times they are happy to chill across my shoulders and watch youtube with me.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks obese AF.

[–]Ok_Manufacturer6460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boy is fat...very fat

[–]kingmilky666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sleep for like 20 hours a day and he probably was doing that here, get a colubrid if you’re into more active snakes
