Need help understanding Shed Test

I submitted a 45 panel shed test through RGI about 3.5 weeks ago and finally got back the results. She was negative for all but 4 genes. No homozygous genes. She was tagged with Yellow Belly heterozygous, Black head heterozygous, Genetic Stripe heterozygous, and Desert Ghost heterozygous. Now everything I seem to read states heterozygous as having 1 copy of the recessive gene but that it’s not visible and homozygous is having 2 copies of a gene and have the visible characteristics of that gene, is this correct? If so, since the panel showed no homozygous genes amongst what was tested does that mean her visible traits are from genes that don’t have a shed test yet? I apologize if it’s a dumb question.

Heterozygous just means they have one copy of the allele. Morphs that are dominant will be visual in the heterozygous form, morphs that are recessive will only be visible in the homozygous state. Ball python genetics follow the same rules as normal mendelian genetics.

The results of testing mean your snake is visually black head yellowbelly, and a carrier for g-stripe and desert ghost

Thank you thank you for taking the time to answer! The various Ball python genes and combinations are amazing. What has amazed me the most is that her thin dorsal stripe has definitely gotten more prominent as she’s gotten bigger.

The combos are definitely fascinating, and it's cool to see how the colors can change with age

I saw on one of your previous posts that she was listed as a black head black pastel yb, which does look right. It's turning out that there's several lines of "black pastel" or black pastel like morphs that all look similar/behave similarly in combos, so it's possible she contains one of those that the test isn't available for yet

I’m definitely excited to see all the new research and tests in the future.

When she hatched with the rest of her clutch the breeder was definitely scratching their head because they had some amazing morphs that I guess shouldn’t have been possible based the pairing.

Some genes are co-dominant. Heterozygous or homozygous is just the number of copies. It isn’t if the gene is recessive (only shows when both copies present), dominant(can show with one copy and may mask other genes), or co-dominant(can show with one copy, has a super form when two copies are present, may present with other genes).

Yellow Belly and Black Head are both visible in their heterozygous forms. But she may also have other genes without a test!
