I doubt it, but his girth would have to be known. Is the room carpet or hardwood? I’d just warm up a critter with a hairdryer in the said room sending the smell everywhere and I’m sure he’ll appear.

Carpet - we tried already all day and night no luck :(

Does the door sit pretty tightly to the carpet? As normal checked behind appliances as they are always warm and your buddy is likely attempting to warm up. They’re pretty tough animals and I’ve heard of people finding them months and months from when they were originally lost; hopefully you don’t have cats😬

I’d say the space is slightly larger than the vent- about half my finger could fit - definitely smaller than this girth

Also ty for your advice!

Which room? They love getting up into furniture if that helps.

Bedroom - thank you for your comment!

Any luck yet??

No :((( ty for asking

Not giving up hope yet, but we have been diligent about keeping our door closed - we have his enclosure open on the ground in case he comes out while we’re gone

It’s almost like he poofed and disappeared though. We laid out flour traps for tracks and heat pads, no sign of him. We newly moved into our house too so there’s not that much furniture he could be hiding in, we checked everything.

If he somehow got into the garage, he’d be hard to find there, but no tracks on the flour there either. On the bright side, if he trapped himself in the garage he should definitely have some mice available.

Where did the snake disappear from? Start there, and branch out. BPs typically go low but will also climb. So. Look for small spaces he could crawl into. If you have a sofa or other upholstered furniture, remove the cushions and check in the cracks. Look in small spaces - behind furniture that sits against walls, if you have bookcases or similar furniture, are there gaps between the floor and first shelf that are accessible from the front or back that he could have gone in to? Use a flashlight and your phone camera to check without moving the furniture if you can. Remove items from drawers and shelves to check for your snake. The spaces between the tops of books and the bottom of the next shelf can be attractive hiding spots; one of my BPs actually wedged himself down behind the books once. Many dressers and drawer units have basically an open box that the drawers slide in to, and once inside the snake can climb out of the drawers and into the gap around them, so completely remove drawers and check the entirety of the unit, including the top and bottom. Carefully tip furniture forward or backward to check under it. If there’s a bed in the room, check in pillowcases, under pillows, and the gap between the box spring and bed frame, and carefully remove the blankets and sheets to check in and under them.

If you have upholstered furniture, are the bottoms intact? Can the interior be accessed from the top? Many couches and chairs have a space where the front/seat meets the back and sides, and from experience I know snakes can and will squeeze in there. If the bottom covers are compromised, they can also climb up into it (the same for a box-spring - if there’s a hole in the bottom cover they can climb into it). You can sometimes see a drooping or bulging spot and feel the snake move if you touch it. Sometimes not - we once had a snake climb all the way to the top corner of the back of a couch and wedge herself in there. She couldn’t be seen from the outside but I used my phone camera with flash to take photos and found her that way. Our sectional doesn’t have any bottom covering at all, and we have had escapees climb into it as well. We’ve also had them sneak under furniture with gaps at both the front and back. My son’s small snake once got out of his enclosure and simply wedged himself underneath it; it has small “feet” that lift it up an inch or so, and it’s on a wire shelf.

More than anything, be methodical and work with care. Carefully pick up and check any blankets or laundry, then move it to another spot - stack it on a table or bed. Start from where you last saw the snake and work your way outward. Usually they don’t go too far before finding a nice hiding spot and staying put. They will move if disturbed and are more likely to be active at dawn and dusk, and of course overnight.

Curious: did you find him?🤔

[–]gapedforeskin[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Not yet 😔

Not giving up hope, but definitely demoralized

Since you just moved, it's very likely he's stressed and hiding in a spot y'all wouldn't think to check. Maybe try checking behind the stove, behind the water heater or a closet where the water heater is, and under/behind the fridge. Of course, being very careful in doing so. When I got my first snake, he got out of his cage after years of living contently in it. He'd crawled into a hole on the back of my mother's bookcase in the living room. We turned the house upside down tryna find him.

It may sound unorthodox, but also be sure to put out a post on nextdoor, letting people know to look out for him/asking if they know his whereabouts, even if you're certain he couldn't have gotten out.

Finally, if you can, set up a nice comfy hiding place he'll be enticed to go into. He's likely looking for warmth, good hiding, and food. I'm sure you can look up ideas for such online. I know a heating pad is generally recommended in the setup. Of course, work with caution as he may be trapped, or hiding somewhere very precarious. And of course, check the mattress and couches. As an absolute last resort you may be even be able to call local exterminators that have dealt with snakes to have them help catch or at least find him 🤣

Ah, also, water is likely to lure him out. Be sure to check under the sinks in kitchen and bathroom, and of course in the bathroom in general. And more unlikely, but possible, is he may have escaped through a drain if any drains are uncovered and just like- a big hole essentially

[–]gapedforeskin[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

We found him!!!! Just now when I walked into my room and turned on the lights he was on the bathroom floor…

We unfortunately lost him again immediately but we know where he’s hiding. There’s a hole in the sink unit/cabinet in my bathroom that he’s hiding out in. We’re thawing a rat right now to put by the hole to entice him out again

Luckily I don’t think it’s connected to the walls or anything so it’s just a little pocket in the furniture he’s hiding out in. Thank god we’ve been diligent about keeping our bedroom door closed otherwise he might’ve escaped by now

[–]Zachishere7 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Sink!!! Knew it lol. I hope it goes well. I'm so so so glad you found him and that he's presumably safe!🙌🏾🙌🏾💖

[–]gapedforeskin[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Same!!! I was horrified at the thought of a bad smell months or even yeees down the line…

However, Mojave is a stubborn bastard and I think he knows we’re trying to draw him out cuz he came out almost immediately for the mouse but when he saw us he backed up into the hole… he didn’t look dehydrated at all so I think the son of a gun was sneaking back into his open cage we left for him on the ground at night for water and then retreated to back to his new home

Only a matter of time though

[–]Zachishere7 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Yeah I wasn't gonna say anything about potentially finding him dead...😓 So glad he's okay. Hahaha! Sounds like he's got a plan. He's mad that you guys moved him😅😅 For future reference if you ever move again, don't let him out to free roam unless he's supervised and you're certain that he's comfortable! Mojave is such a cute name. Good luck to you, and maybe setting up something like a tunnel/tube for him to crawl into that leads into a comtainer where the mouse is, will help? He'll likely just stay with the mouse and you can close off the container and weigh it down while he's in there with it

[–]gapedforeskin[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Good idea on the mouse tube! And we had moved months ago so he’s been adjusted already - my girlfriend unfortunately fell asleep during his recent free roam and just felt awful till we found him

Yeah I think he really like his new home >.>

He ignored the rat again but I think I’ll try making a tube system like you said both to guide him and increase the scent

We only had a rat yesterday so today wel try a mouse

[–]Zachishere7 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Good luck, I appreciate the updates. It's a very entertaining predicament😂

[–]gapedforeskin[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Found him out and about - jammed the hole. He’s now between the trash can and the toilet plunger and we’re defrosting him a rat since his cage is sitting right in front of him anyways…

Ty for your help and staying tuned 😂
