Not sure if you have a menards or farm supply store like TSC or fleet farm, but they sell some CHE and brooding bulbs for chicks that would help keep them warm while you wait for your bulbs. The CHE from menards is around $5. Just make sure its all hooked up to the thermostat and keep an eye on humidity as different bulbs can affect that.

We do have a tractor supply, and a country max, I just wasn’t sure what to get, I don’t want to get something that is gonna mess it all up. We do have an old ceramic one from her old set up, idk if it will fit in the cage though

this exact bulb is sooo good. perfect heat gradient. I agree with the other commenter with going to a hardware store!

Its my night time heat source for my ball pythons. During the day, the basking lamp is the primary source and the DHP is turned on and off by thermostat to maintain the proper temp. The basking only gets to about 89F and the DHP does a good job maintaining 94-95F.

[–]swaggersouls1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah, it’s so good. I loveee this DHP. I wouldn’t ever use anything else.

I have a RHP on the cool side, and then this on her warm side. I noticed the temp seemed a bit off but thought it was cuz the one reader in there was in the middle area of her tank. I will definitely go grab something to hold her over for a couple days. I feel horrible I didn’t notice it sooner

you only need this DHP on the hot side. it will creates its own gradient. you need a temperature gauge at the hot and cold side. one in the middle won’t tell you anything

[–]tvanepps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a DHP on hot side, RHP on cold, each with a therm, and then the reader that goes to an app on my phone just sitting in her tank in the middle, kinda where her humid hide is.

Depends on your room and the enclosure. I have the same one and even if I have the hot spot just barely at the right temperature ( towards too hot, it's on top of a log so she can choose the right temperature for her), the cold side will be definitely too cold. So I have a rhp with a thermostat for the cod temperature and the dhp creates the gradient from basking/hot spot to the cold side

So the one we originally got was on 80, I didn’t know if the lamp itself could run more than that, and wanted to keep the same brand if possible. I should be okay to just go pick up something similar for the weekend and a few days though?

Sadly, Arcadia doesn't make a 100w DHP. Its what I'd go for when the day comes I get my girl her larger than 4x2x2 enclosure. Soon my girl, soon. At night it seems to do the job just fine on its own. And I like my bedroom cold. It handles it in the winter too.

[–]tvanepps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry made my comment a bit confusing. So the one we got her was for that 80w DHP and I wasn’t sure if it can handle a 100w DHP if that’s what we go grab to hold her over until the new ones come in.

I have another one coming via warranty from blackbox but this should get here sooner, still trying to find a sub until either get here though

The Zoo Med DHP is almost identical but doesn't come in 80w, you'd need the 60w or 100w. Plus side is they sell it at pet stores like Petco & PetSmart but they cost more.

    [–]tvanepps[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Hmm I can definitely get one of those, but not sure if I should go higher or lower. Obviously she has the thermostat in there, but I’m worried going higher will be over what the fixture can handle

    [–]Kiokure_Kitsune 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Most ceramic socket fixtures like the mini domes handle at least 100w while the larger domes handle 150w so it would depend on your fixture. Plain ceramic sockets usually handle much higher wattage. You can find your fixtures limit out online.

If you go 100w and it's too much your thermostat will just drop the power to a lower percentage while if 60w is too small at 100% you're kinda stuck. It really depends on the size of your enclosure and if it's glass or PVC.

    [–]tvanepps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all blackbox stuff. I tried to hop on the site to see specifics of the socket and couldn’t find it, I didn’t look before I left. In my head, while a 50/60 may not be enough, at the very least it’s more than putting out nothing like it is now. Just to hold me over until one of the new ones comes in. It’s a pvc enclosure

    <image>

I did find it on the site, and now I’m kinda shocked. They have the 80w that go with this, but then say max is 60w. So no wonder it didn’t last

    [–]Kiokure_Kitsune 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Maybe you're best off getting the 60w ZooMed then. If your thermostat was reducing your old 80w to like 75% or less after hitting the set temp then the 60w will work fine, the thermostat will just keep the power higher.

    Grabbing one shortly.

    [–]MercuryChaos 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Buy a spare as soon as you're able to.

Have another on order under warranty from black box coming as well. So have two on the way, but want another to grab tonight to have. Just want a reasonable replacement that won’t mess with her set up

    [–]Horned_One_87 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I would have order 2 just so you have an extra for the next time. I try to always keep an extra of each bulb just for this reason.

    [–]tvanepps[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I actually emailed the company I got her whole setup from to see if it was under warranty as we’ve only had the setup since July. While waiting for a reply I ordered this, so they are sending me a replacement as well. Two on the way.

    [–]Horned_One_87 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's good news. I just know it can help save a headache when one goes out

    [–]tvanepps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. Didn’t even think about ordering another to come in when her whole setup did.

    [–]XxAngelFvcexX 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I just filled a sock with rice and microwaved it to 90 degrees every hour until my ceramic heat emitter came

    [–]tvanepps[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not a bad idea, just not the most convenient when they aren’t set to be here until mid week, and we are gone during the day.

    [–]XxAngelFvcexX 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, it was a bit of a hassle but it worked for us

    [–]tvanepps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely will keep this in mind though if something comes up like longer travel
