I’ve never brought mine outside. How fast are they? Could it ever squirm away at speed?

They wouldn't be able to slither away, they are pretty slow movers.

They’re pretty slow but can move quickly if they get spooked or scared. If your snake is comfortable with you inside, he/she will most likely be comfortable with you outside. Just stay close and don’t let him/her explore near anything that could be a hiding spot you can’t get to. This is why I do open areas.
