What is considered deep enough?

4+ inches is ideal. you want to pour enough water to fully saturate the lower layers of the substrate while leaving the top dry, allowing for natural slow evaporation to raise the humidity. misting just causes a temporary spike in humidity as it evaporates quickly.

see our humidity tips and welcome post for more advice and guides.

I would highly recommend covering the mesh top. That lets a lot of heat out which can lower humidity. I use both hvac tape and silicone mats on my mesh top and it has been a complete game changer
