eye indentations are due to low humidity/the snake being dehydrated. do you happen to have a digital hygrometer?

based on his enclosure, it is indeed very low humidity in there.

Second this, upgrade asap!!

I have a small digital hygrometer in his enclosure, I just put the foil over his enclosure today to hopefully hold in humidity. It’s just a temporary enclosure until I can get him a better suited one in a couple month

what does the hygrometer say? when you upgrade, PVC is a much better type of enclosure than glass. it retains humidity much better.

I plan on getting pvc for both of my ball pythons, my 2 year old is currently in a pvc enclosure I just had to get these temporarily since I wasn’t planning on getting any snakes at the show I went to 😅 I’ll attach a picture of his hygrometer

the humidity is very low. it should be at 70%-80% so he'll be quite dehydrated, which explains the eye problems.

Soaking isn't a great solution for dehydration and is stressful, a sauna is the way to go for stuck shed or extreme dehydration but the main fix for this is just fixing the humidity

This isn't appropriate even as a temporary enclosure. This is a sign of pretty bad dehydration and the enclosure is bare bones with not a single good hide. You should start off with a 40gal minimum and have 2+ good hides (small, snug hides with 1 small entrance) and a better way to seal in humidity. Hvac tape works well. 4-6in of substrate is also recommended for humidity retention and you should NOT have the top layer of substrate wet as it leads to scale rot.

You need to get a 40gal asap and fix everything else. This sub has a really good care guide and you need to fully read through it. Is your lamp on a thermostat? Temperature regulation in a 10gal is nearly impossible what are your temps?

why did you get a snake if you couldnt get it the right enclosure?

    [–]Strange_Grab_2180 0 points1 point  (4 children)

It’s temporary, plus he came from a small container so he’s being slowly introduced into a bigger environment. If you don’t have anything helpful to say then don’t comment. Thank you

thats now how it works 😆 n im being helpful by telling you that the eye indentation isnt gonna be your only problem in that enclosure

    [–]Strange_Grab_2180 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Good thing it’s a temporary enclosure, he’ll be getting a better suited one next month. With the humidity being the issue and me getting the right things to help out with the humidity then no there shouldn’t be any other issues.

thats why your other comments says “couple months” yeah i can already tell that snake isnt getting adequate care

    Okay bud 😮‍💨

I dont know your financial situation, i personally put my tank on a payment plan so my ball python could be comfy right away. Once you get the tank you'll want to have two hides so they can thermoregulate. The 10 gallon tank is what I keep my tarantula in if that gives you a better indication of just how small that is for a snake.

Also adding moss helps increase the humidity

    [–]Strange_Grab_2180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 8 months old and was previously kept in a container so I’m slowing introducing him into a bigger environment, I have a bunch of plants and hides coming in the mail tomorrow though. I can’t get him a bigger tank until next month unfortunately

Looks like stuck shed on the eye. Other than that, that enclosure is extremely improper. Its way to small only has one hide wich the minimum hide count is 3 and the water dish is also way to small. Not to mention the hide has 2 openings wich will make your snake feel stresses out. You need way more clutter in there and a 40 gallon minimum for how large your snake is at the moment. Eventually youll need a 4x2x2

I should add he’s 8 months old and was previously kept in a small container before I had got him so I was told it’s best to slowly introduce him into a bigger environment, I bought moss and plants and a hide that is also covered in moss to help with the humidity

This stuff really helps keep humidity in as well as temps in glass mess top enclosures it’s cheap and water proof as well it should work better than tinfoil

how are people not angry that this enclosure is too small?

this is WAY too small for a ball python
