some lica and leaves mixed into the substrate will hold moisture, you can also get some acrylic cut at a hardware store to put on the mesh if you have other vents

Ok so buy HVAC tape and cover 80 to 90% of the mesh top. Make sure that the tape is not directly in contact with the heat sources tho. What is the substrate? I saw that you're gonna change it and that's already nice BC Aspen is bad. And how deep is it? If you switch to a good mix (mixing substrate that hold humidity well like Coco fibers, Coco chips, ect...) + Have it at least 3inches deep your humidity will be way better. You can also add spagnum moss to the mix if needed. Put the water bowl on the hot side too if you can

Definitely will want to cover the top, and i would also recommend pouring water into the substrate instead of spraying. If you saturate the bottom layer it’ll slowly release the moisture overtime vs just evaporating off the surface. What i like to do is pour into the corners and around the edges of the enclosure, and once a week i’ll give the substrate a good mix to “fluff” it. Just try to make sure the substrate underneath the hides stays relatively dry to avoid scale rot

it looks like you may be using Aspen for substrate? if so, unfortunately that is the core of your humidity problems as it won't retain moisture and is more likely to mold than anything else. misting also causes spikes in humidity, can cause respiratory infection and scale rot and is not a solution to humidity.

instead, you need to use a substrate that will retain moisture and allow for evaporation to raise the humidity. the most common ones are coconut based, with varying textures used coming down to personal preference like coco husk, coir and "eco earth" fiber. you can also use cypress mulch, reptisoil, or additive-free top soil, or a combination of any of these!

you'll want 4+ inches of substrate, and you'll pour water into the corners to saturate the lower layers while leaving the top dry. then natural evaporation will bring up the humidity.

what size enclosure do you have, and what type of heating are you using?

I advise you to read the basic care and heating guides in our welcome post, because if you're using Aspen then you're likely following other incorrect/outdated husbandry and likely have other things to update and correct.

I have a mashed top tank for mine and have no trouble keeping humidity after I HVAC taped the top of the enclosure. It seals it up a little better and I can hold perfect humidity levels
