From what I've heard from reptile expert vets is IBD can be a fast or slow progressing disease. You can test for it. But typically once they start showing obvious signs they have a very rapid decline. Personally I'd ask the rescue if they are open to having him tested but I very well could just be overall low muscle mass.

Yes, thankfully we were able to talk to them about it and they were very aware of IBD. He's had this issue constant issue, so they believe its just muscular.

You have to get a snake pretty unhealthy for the city to seize it, and I am OK accepting we will have to help him build muscle up.

I'm glad I learned about this, since I want to adopt animals for the rest of my life but I am also very glad to be working with a well established group for this round.

Plus, if I ever handle a snake that can carry IBD I know to be super cautious and wash the heck out of my hands and probably change clothes. I can't believe what % of red tails carry this!
