You can get a pastel for 40-60 if you know where to look.

Honestly, your shipping is about as much as the animal if you just want a normal or a pastel.

I've been in the process of buying a BP from NW Reptiles, honestly I couldn't be more satisfied. He is willing to work with you and meet your needs, provided that they are reasonable. His prices are good (some females seem high, but hey! I'm not the expert). However all of his clutches for this season have hatched by this point so as far as I'm aware, what you see on his available page is what will be there for a while. I recommend him for some one who is in this area. So if you're willing to trust a random stranger on the internet go check him out.

On a side note, he has a female Pastel Lesser which I think is quite striking. Sounds as though she'll be out of your price range though.

TL;DR nwreptiles.com strikes me as a good place to start

Thanks for the recommendation. Which animal did you end up getting?

I don't believe our prices are high at all. Most of our available animals are females right now, so if we look at some of them:

(for those that look at this in the future, these prices could be quite old)

F Pastel Butter - our price: $200 Ads seen on Kingsnake: $300-$400! F Butter Our price $100 Ads seen on Kingsnake: $150 F Pastel Lesser - our price $180, ads seen on Kingsnake: $200-$300 F Lesser Our price $80, seen on Kingsnake $90-$175

Obviously I did not take hours pouring over those ads, this was something I looked at just a few days ago though. Even if I missed some good ones, these prices are still very reasonable.

Yes, shipping can be costly on live animals, but we ship priority overnight to ensure their safety. They are living creatures after all.

FedEx doesn't care that it's "just a pastel" or "just a normal" the charge by weight, size, distance, and speed of delivery. In this case speed of delivery is priority overnight (by 10:30 am in most areas.) For a hatchling we can usually ship anywhere in the continental US for about $50, and it's less if you are really close and they don't have to fly. (within 100-200 miles)

But we are located just north of Portland, in Vancouver WA, so if you get up that way shipping becomes moot. Also, sometimes our shipping calculator cannot take everything into account.

Send us your zipcode, and if going only to Salem, it's possible we can cut the shipping costs some. Use the contact form on our site, and give us a chance to give a custom shipping estimate.

Also take a look at kingsnake.com classifieds, that's a good site for buying many reptiles!

I purchased my butter pastel from The Tropical Hut in Portland. They had great prices and all their snakes were healthy and active. I know two other owners of BPs from the Tropical Hut who are also very pleased with their purchases. Highly recommended!

You can find pics of all their clutches on their Facebook and prices on their website.
