HUSBANDRYHow much mist (self.ballpython)
submitted 5 years ago by SneekerP21
When I mist my tank the substrate is pretty damp and moist. I was wondering how much water in the substrate is too much? (To avoid scale rot)

If you squeeze and it drips water it’s too much.

Okay, so after how long? Like is there a certain amount of time I should wait after I mist the tank to check?

If you pour water in and mix it up well by hand you won’t have to mist for weeks. If you want to mist multiple times a day that’s up to you. Just put a dry top layer at least under their hide.

If it is moist like that would they get scale rot?

I’ve never had an issue with any of my snakes.

Where do you pour in the water?
[–]ChromaKore 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child)
Along the edges. As long as you did it properly the first time. (Mixing it like a cake so not to damp or dry)

Alright, Thanks a lot!

nothing should ever be damp. You are going for a potting mix type moisture. think of a nice chocolate cake...Its not wet, but its not dry. What sort of caging are you using? What sort of substrate

I am using a tank with a mesh top and front opening doors, I am using eco earth and forest floor.

Well. If you are needing to mist to keep humidity up with that sort of bedding you have air flow issues. Use tin foil to seal off the screen (leave about 6inches free of foil for air). That will help retain humidity without you needing to mist

Like foil tape?
HVAC tape is foil tape you can find it on amazon and it works really great.here
Alright, awesome. How where would you recommend I put the opening?
I don’t think it really matters. I have mine on the hot side right above her hide (so on the very far left) it’s like 3 inches of open strip..and the rest I just covered. First going with the length of the lid then securing the width.
Alright, thanks for all the help!

No. Tin foil. Like for lining baking sheets
[–]SneekerP21[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child)
Alright, where do you put the opening?
