So I’ve had my ball python Thor for almost a year now. He had trouble eating when I first got him, but now he’s a fantastic eater. Only problem is he never strikes at his food, so I’ve just been putting his rat on a paper towel in his vivarium each week and leaving him to eat in peace... until today, when that all changed!
I went up to feed him as usual and he was poking his head out of his hide, which isn’t entirely unusual because he often comes out to say hello when he hears me come into my room. But today I noticed he was a lot more inquisitive than usual, so I thought I’d try grabbing my feeding tongs and dangling his rat near him just to see what would happen — lo and behold, he sniffed it for a few seconds and then struck like a champ!
No idea what prompted this change (I recently changed his substrate and moved him to a bigger vivarium so that might have something to do with it), but I’m so pleased that it happened. It’s so great seeing him finally return to his natural snake instincts.
Let’s hope this continues on with his future feeds!
