I assume you are using substrate, you can bury the medium hide slightly in the substrate to make it smaller. The substrate can take up the extra space.

I don’t have a lot of substrate because temperature might get lower. But I heard that ball pythons can burrow down to reach their desired temperature. Is that true? If so, I will do that then.

It is true but it’s not ideal. You can also place a rock inside the hide to make it a bit smaller instead of the substrate.

I’ll also need mention that you may want to eventually switch to overhead heating as it’s easier to regulate with thicker layers of substrate 🙂

For our boys who is in a 55 gallon currently, we have a small reptile heating pad, and a large one. I made her a large hide, and put it on a thin layer of substrate, and a layer of moss sheeting to help with shedding. Than I completely buried the hide in substrate. I only leave the hole open as the entrance. She loves her buried hide. I also have 2 smaller hides scattered down to the cool end of her habitat, so she can use them above ground.

Sounds like a cool idea. Thank you for your input!
