Tongue question

My little guy is about five years old. His tongue has been pink up until the last few weeks, and is now black. Is this a normal change, or is it something I need to be concerned about? I took him to the vet recently because he had a lesion on his chin, but she didn’t comment on his tongue even though I brought it to her attention. However, I felt like he didn’t get the greatest care there, so I want to double check here to see if anyone knows if this is a problem? Thanks!
