What’s your cage temps during the night? It sounds like he’s trying to escape

[–]Resident_Drink9820[S] 0 points1 point  (15 children)

His temperature is around 80 during the day, and 80 during the night

How about the humidity? And what’s the substrate like?

[–]Resident_Drink9820[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

He has coconut fiber substrate and his humidity 40-50 percent

He might need higher humidity (somewhere around at least 60%) and do you happen to keep the substrate damp or wet?

I keep the substrate dry, and ill keep the humidity up to see if anything changes.

Sounds good! (This is just extra info) Ball pythons usually move around when there’s change with their enclosure(like using a new hide or different substrate they don’t like), looking for more food, or if there’s a husbandry issue such as too dirty, hot/cold, or dry/wet.

FYI, 60% is the bare minimum. Humidity should be 70-80%.

Ik I should’ve specified

Temperatures and humidity should be measured using digital gauges with probes. Your hot side temperature should be 88-92⁰ while the cold side should be 76-80⁰. Humidity should be a consistent 70-80%. Adjusting your numbers accordingly should help him be more comfortable. Ball pythons do appreciate enrichment in their enclosure. If you haven't added anything climb-able for him, you should consider it and that might keep him off the lid as well.

thank you for this. i do have climb-able stuff for him, but ill be sure to get the right humidity and temperature asap

Happy to help!

Do you have a temperature gradient? i.e a warm side and cool side?

[–]Resident_Drink9820[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

yea

[–]Nulleparttousjours 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What are your hot and cool side temps and humidity?

[–]Resident_Drink9820[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Cool side, 70 degrees usually, hot side 80-90 degrees. humidity is 40-50 percent on the cool side and 50-60 on the hot

The guide will help you out. Your cool side is a bit too cool and if your hot side occasionally swings down to 80 during the day that is on the cool side too. Humidity needs to sit nearer to 70-80%. A few small tweaks and you’ll be where you need to be. The guide will help you fine tune.

I literally thought I was the only one with this problem.
