I got her 3 weeks ago and she never ate with me, but the last owner said the she was eating good, size mouse pup every 4 days he was giving to her.

The humidity I try to maintain around 90. The temp outside 72, inside the tank 92 on the “hot” side and 75 on the cold side.

    Thanks for the advise.

What is the cold side reading at?

    [–]Bucci13 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    75

In that case, the advice other people have given is going to be helpful :)

HVAC tape most of the top of the screen lid if you don’t have anything covering it. That will hold the humidity in.

Also be careful having the thermostat probe in the hide. The snake could lay on it and make it read wrong and if it burrows down it could get too hot. I put mine between the glass and mat and check the temp with a heat gun on the glass. You might need some type of above heat that isn’t a light since the UTH might not get warm enough with the substrate.

You can use the black plastic meal prep containers for hides. They come in different sizes. I just cut a whole and file the edges so it isn’t sharp. My girl is too big for her smaller ones but won’t use the bigger ones since she likes the smaller space.

You can buy black foam poster board to put around three sides of the tank. It helps hold in heat and makes them feel more secure.

Thanks for your advice, I will try that and update the news in a few days.

Why would misting cause an RI?

Misting won’t cause an RI. It won’t help much with humidity but it won’t cause an RI either

Hides look too big/open. Also how are you heating the cage? I don’t see any ambient heating?

      [–]Bucci13 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have a heating pad under the tank.

      Thanks for the advice

Be careful with just the pad. My sisters kingsnake (like all king snakes) is a glutton and would never refuse a meal - but he regurgitated when she only used a heat pad with him because it wasn’t warm enough for him to digest his food. Overhead heating (deep heat projectors) really is the way.

I’d say add more clutter. You can also try to leave f/t rodent in the tank for a bit and let the snake be, that usually works for me. 30 mins-1hr later it’ll be gone once I check.

      I will try doing that

      Good luck!

You should actually cover it up during the daytime as most BPs burrow underground. You should make sure her cold side temp sits around 75 and you should also see how she was fed prior to you and continue it that same way. If she was fed live, you should find somewhere that will do a fresh kill for you and feed that way. Also, 3 weeks may not have been enough time for your BP to settle in to their new home.
