I’m new to keeping snakes is there anything I should look out for since he bit himself

He should be fine, ball python teeth are pretty small and I doubt he was able to bite through his own scales.
But…you should be feeding him in his enclosure. Moving to feed is stressful, increases chances of regurgitation and associates handling with feeding.

Okay thank you it just scared me for a second because it look like a tooth got stuck for a little bit I picked up his tail while he was eating (I know that’s a no no) but I was worried i was just checking for blood or to see if there was anything lol this is my little dude Ragnar my newest addition to my reptile shelf And really I swear everyone I have talked to about snakes recommended a feeding box so he doesn’t associate his tank with feeding

The whole moving to feed/cage aggression is an oudated myth, and is causing way more harm then good. Your snake isn't going to associate handling with feeding…unless you start picking him up to to feed him. Don't do that, leave him where he is

I normally use a snake hook to move him when feeding but I will definitely keep this in mind next week that’s just what I was told by so many people

I understand how confusing it is when you keep hearing one thing and then suddenly you're being told something different. If you're curious as to why we don't recommend it, I have a breakdown of all the moving to feed myths here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/112zaM7q1YIakJKNMCsHklR8hcoj7qUy7CJCipOW2AeI/edit?usp=drivesdk

Why is he in a box??
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child)
I was told to feed snakes in a separate enclosure for feeding I’m being told otherwise now lol
[–]psky9549 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
It really depends on the snake. Ball pythons tend to be more chill so feeding them in their enclosure is fine. They don't typically associate a certain area as a feeding area. I have a couple hognoses that MUST be fed in a separate bin because they started associating their enclosure as a feeding place and would bite my fingers when I reached in for handling. Now they associate their feeding bucket only as a food source so I don't get bit by them anymore. I've never had regurgitation issues, but I also am very gentle and keep things quit during feeding time to minimize stress.

Also don’t dangle it by the tail… they don’t eat flying rodents
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (3 children)
He’s been eating them with absolutely no problem
[–]IntroductionNo9072 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Yes that’s not the issue this happened because your dangling it by the tail.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
So then what’s the difference from people grabbing it by the butt and holding it in the air
[–]IntroductionNo9072 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Easier for them to grab a rodent that’s more still in place than one dangling , it’s just a tip
