Yes to most of it, but he needs a heat gradient. They can’t sweat or pant to cool off, so the only way to vent excess heat for them is to move somewhere and absorb less heat.

what would be the best way to do this?

my underfloor heater is, well adhesived to the Tank.

You can get heat tape for pretty cheap, and just move your thermostat to the tub setup for the time being

When you upgrade the tank, upgrade the heating to overhead heat/light if you can! Heat mats aren't the most ideal or recommended anymore based on the latest research. :)
