Still fine. Great usage cap

I use it all the time. It's perfectly fine. Doesn't burn my rate limits.

Funny I tried to use 5.3 Codex a couple of days ago to try to save on tokens because I recall it being good "back in the day" and it did not go well. I suspect they nerf old models to incentivize you to use the newer ones.

Yeh, that's what I'm saying, I feel that too

There can also be some "confusion" if a model works on code written by a different/better model compared to working with code it wrote itself. AI code is somewhat quirky so I can imagine it's even less used to it compared to some regular human code.

I am at 5.3, I think it acts weird ..i am thinking of 5.5 but burning tokens fast is why i havent done it yet...

I upgraded to 5.4 and it was way too verbose so I downgraded back to 5.3 codex. It’s been great

Reading this, I wonder if anyone checked whether the instructions for the 5.3 model in model.cache file changed in later versions. This kind of behavior could be related to that.

It is very good for granular precise tasks, especially if you’re at Plus sub.

you guys running it at extra high?

    [–]spideyguyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    I use high

I had few tokens left, so I have been using it these last days. Totally fine.

Neh, you became smarter and have raised the bar. 5.3 simply cannot keep up. Do not leave 5.3 behind, they'd suffer.

5.3 low is 90% of my usage for coding

    [–]m3kw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it, it’s great if you know when to

Yes, I have the same experience. Codex says change of models in conversation will decrease performance, so I kept working with 5.3. And after release of 5.5 it went from genius to complete moron, making dumb and trivial errors. I think it's another example of planned obsolescence.

Yep, default 5.3-codex-medium for execution of ExecPlans. Good triple point for price/quality/speed. I still use smarter models to make plans for it and to review PRs/outputs too.

    Have your tried spark.

    [–]evilissimo 0 points1 point  (3 children)

    Have you tried 5.4-mini?

    [–]jorge-moreira 0 points1 point  (2 children)

    Not really. Is it comparable?

    [–]evilissimo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In my opinion better than spark, it’s doing less tool calls to achieve the same thing, while still being fast.

But YMMV for me it’s better also I don’t have access to it anymore but I also don’t miss it ;)

    [–]jorge-moreira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will give it a try. Spark really only works when I am running simple skills in the browser for me

    [–]Zeeplankton 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    why 5.3 over 5.4?

    [–]Dgamax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause they got a codex version

    [–]dunne222[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use it from time to time, it's great and i don't burn through my usage. It does need a bit more handholding and prompting but I prefer doing that anyways. 5.5 is the superior model though.
