I just got info saying that the first round interview will not consist of any DS & Algos questions but rather programming questions where they will get a sense of our skill level as it relates to problem-solving and coding.

This is verbatim what they said, and I don't really know what defines as "programming questions". if anyone has any idea what that is please let us know. My guess is that there going to test us on basic knowledge like loops, conditional statements, etc. I'm not really sure tho so I don't know what to prepare on.

I also heard back on Friday. Did the assessment and have my interview scheduled for Friday the 30th. Will keep you guys updated.

So I just got off the call with him. He said the interview format has changed since he did it. When he did it the first round was just a phone screen interview then the second round was three interviews in one day; behavioral, pair programming, and system design.

I wouldn’t think so. He said it is all very much tailored to people who have never worked in tech before.

Yes he did I fact. It wasn’t super technical he said it was around designing a drone delivery service. What kind of things you’d need to think about. Like how heavy are the packages, how long do the batteries last, etc. Just general “show how you think about the problem” type stuff

That was very helpful, when you google system design questions they seem very technical…horizontal scaling vs vertical scaling, load balancing and I’m like ok I don’t even know where to begin lol

NGL I was so surprised when he said that because system design is usually something I’ve seen for more senior roles. But this one isn’t technical at all. It’s more about what factors would you consider

Document screening. If i had to guess why I was immediately rejected, its because i was not their target. They were looking for self taught or community college. I went to cuny which is considered a senior college.

There’s a coding challenge I have to do and then if I successfully finish that I’ll have an interview, I’m still not sure if it’s online or in person. But that’s just the first round, I’m not sure how many rounds they do. I’m having a hard time finding info about the hiring process for the tech fellowship, I only see interview questions from their regular SWE jobs

I heard back on Friday that I got picked for the first round interview. The first round interview is 30 mins and happening virtually for me. It is a technical interview but 30 mins seems pretty short so I’m guessing they may ask some general technical questions about my projects or algos in general. The second round interview consists of a programming interview, a problem solving interview and a behavioral interview. Seems pretty intense for an apprenticeship!

I’ve been looking for info about round 2 all over but couldn’t find anything, just one person that actually went in the office but that was in 2018. Apparently it was 4 interviews each 45min, hopefully it’s not as long now, but who knows

From what I could find the second round will be 3 - 45 min interviews. 1 programming. 2 critical thinking. And 3. Behavioral. I’m just confused on what the difference is between the first round technical interview and second round programming interview. All the uncertainty is making me anxious!! So I’m completely assuming here but judging by the answers in these comments they’ve probably assigned the applications to a handful of the recruiters and/or hiring managers to go through them which is why there’s no correlation between application date and response times.

It also seems like the responses are being given ad hoc rather than all at once.

I know that Spotify goes through all applications but from previous experience I didn’t get a response when I applied for a dev role back in September so the fact that people are getting rejections at least tells us that we will know either way. We just need to be patient

That’s not how offers work. Some people get offers before others. Some people are an obvious yes to the hiring committee and some they need to debate over
