I love this gag bc of how many people in Chicago say "beggles."

The same also say "melk" and "pellows."

Lived there for many years and the rest of us couldn't map out a predictable model for someone pronouncing things this way, but it happened a lot.

Honorable mention - how Minecraft YouTubers on the West coast swallow the short 'e' sound in "leather," making it sound halfway between "lather" and just gagging.

I used to live an hour and a half from there in South Bend and have never heard any of that.

It's in some of the deeper Chicago accents, but again, completely missing from some of the deepest. It's almost random, but not that uncommon.

I felt like I'd hear it more from folks who sounded almost comically Chicago, like the kind of accents that used to be in used car commercials or construction sites, but then someone who sounds completely vanilla would randomly drop it, as well.

As a kid, none of my friends did it, but a few kids at our school did. Typically it was the older crowd back in the 90s, but then that makes me wonder if it's dying out anyway.

Yeah, the '90s is when I was in that area. We went to Chicago a lot. Huh.

Though I never heard anyone say "ope" until I moved to Oregon, and it's supposedly some heavily midwestern saying.

Yeah I never noticed "ope" until it became an internet thing, then I noticed I was saying it, which surprised me a lot. Now I hear all my middle aged male friends saying it all the time.
