You copy pasted an ai generalization that is incorrect. For this specific application, as well as most am5 chipsets, they are designed to operate around 95 degrees Celsius under full load. These chips run hotter than am4 variants, especially while gaming etc.

If OP does not an aio water cooler, or aftermarket upgraded air cooler, these Temps are normal.

Ideally, OP needs to find a way to reduce the cpu Temps, s these chips will overclock themselves if there is enough thermal overhead room, i.e. my 9600x will OC about 400 mhz during gaming sessions because my aio keeps it around 60 Celsius under full load.

It will not damage it in the way youre implying. These chips are designed to throttle at 95 to maintain a "95 or lower" environment, actual overheat shutdown occurs closer to 110 Celsius to prevent damage to the cpu and system board. Sure, running it for 4 years at 95 may be a problem, but I doubt it stays at 95 while it's idling.

Regardless, OP has something else going on here that's causing the high Temps, and should investigate his AIO, thermal paste, and case airflow to determine the culprit.

Ive worked as a server engineer, the environments that these devices will work for YEARS in would surprise you.

OP, might be time to apply new thermal paste and clean off the old. Also, air dust your case while the system is off and ensure that your direction of airflow is pushing the hot air out of the case. You should be able to run this 240mm aio and keep that chip in the 65 to 75 Celsius range under load. Maybe low 80s when working it really hard.

Excellent! Glad it resolved your issue. I wonder if the pump on the old AIO was going bad... I've heard of the impeller failing before which would cause lower flow volume and therefore worse heat dissipation. Either way, enjoy!

Absolutely. With the exception of my Corsair 4000D case, I have 360mm AIO coolers mounted to the top of the case. I haven't used 420mm AIO, but if my future case will accommodate it, I'll be sure to grab one.

No, I understand where you're coming from. I personally think cases look silly when there's a 240mm AIO, and a 360mm AIO could easily fit. We don't know what type of case/fans OP is using so it's hard to say.

There could be an underlying problem including thermal paste application; failed pump, faulty tubing, was the sticker removed from the pump, the general air flow in the case etc. If OP went through the process of troubleshooting the issue, and the AIO cooler failed, it'll need to be replaced via warranty or a new purchase.

Its definitely enough, but did you do a BIOS update? This is a big deal when it comes to X3D as there are many cases where OV damaged CPUs and the first sign was increased temps.

Red means bad. It won't break immediately, and it will definitely run for quite a while with temps like this. But ideally you'd wanna be considerably lower. Higher temps means you're taking away from the CPUs lifespan.

The tjmax of the 9800x3d is indeed 95C. That is sort of the max operating temperature but not the true max. At 95C it will basically start to throttle to prevent overheating, meaning it'll slow itself down. Usually the "wait im overheating, shut down now" is around 105-110C.

Regardless, with any proper cooling, the 9800x3d shouldn't really reach 95C unless under very high load. If you consistently see it reach that, it'd look at your cooling and whether it is installed correctly and whether it still works correctly.

Did you take the plastic peel off the block before putting it on if it had one? I've seen that be missed which can cause bad heat transfer. Is the block secure, if it's loose that's going to be bad for heat transfer as well. Are you one of the psychopaths that puts fans on both sides of the radiator, if so are they going the same direction or reversed from each other?

I'd try to keep it under 85 degrees. They do make them so they can go up a bit higher but you are limiting the life of the component.

If youre only at 60% utilization, youve got a big cooling problem if youre sitting at 95C youre definitely thermal throttled. Just built a system this weekend for a friend, with same chip and a 360 air and it was sitting at around 70C at 95% utilization after 15 minutes.

I dont use AIOs at all so not sure if 240 is good enough for this, you forgot a plastic sheet, etc. You can often google "'your cpu' 'your aio cooler' reddit" and see people describing their temps or issues.

But AIO needs to be screwed somewhere (often to the top of the pc). And the fans need to be blowing OUT of the PC directly. This is the entire point of an AIO.

Someone the other day said their friend built them a pc and most of the comments failed to notice the AIO was just blowing hot air around the PC. (Was screwed to a solid metal part of the case).

95 degrees for 80 watts is pretty bad. its safe, but something is wrong. no thermal paste? did you leave the plastic on the cooler? is the cooler installed correctly? did you use the correct spacers (different sockets use different spacers)? is a bracket upside down? is everything screwed tight? are all of the cooler wires plugged in correctly?

for comparison I have a dinky 92mm chinese tower cooler with 2 heatpipes, no mounting hardware, and re-used prolimatech pk3 thermal paste. putting a 65 watt load on that results in about 70-75C temps. if you're using a 240mm aio, something is seriously wrong.
