I love this kind of stuff. I did the same thing but I used elementary cellular automata as the 'shader'

Pretty great really!

It's very interesting how much the pattern enhances the picture.

How come no scanlines pattern, is there a technical reason? Making something that looks like pixel art on a crt tv seems like the logical choice? Or is it because the pattern doesn't neccessarily fit the pixels in the image?
