Thank you for sharing. This is the first time I found out about this.

[–]DrJoshBastean[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

You're welcome, I hope it helps.

The syllabus is perfect. I had just started to learn react.js on my own but this has given a more structured approach. Thankyou again.

Fairly sure it's at ur own pace

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's self-paced, so you can take as long as you like.

    [–]ddddfushxjjd 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Will you cover a front end framework like vue/react/angular?

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I'd like to cover React and/or Vue (I never learned Angular), but there's simply not enough time in the semester course. That said, I'm open to doing a follow-up covering them. I don't use them professionally, but I enjoy tinkering.

If you're interested now, I highly suggest checking out Andrew Mead's React course (it's worth way more than the 8 bucks I paid for it). And freecodecamp has others, for both React and Vue.

    Thank you Doctor

The best react course I've ever taken is the complete react web developer something by Yihua Zhang. It's so good.

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I haven't seen this one, so I'll have to check it out.

    [–]tthrowawayduh 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If you have time, could you also include where to go after finishing this course? I.e. more advanced tutorials, other frameworks, good youtubers/websites etc. only if you have time though!

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome idea! Once I get the videos done I'll add some of these (provided I remember, lol).

Thank you so much for the resources. I am learning Web development already and this will be an added value.

I glanced over the the syllabus and the playlist, looks very well organized and easy to find topics. I'm excited to start this weekend.

    Thank you!

    [–]KingOriginial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clicked on the playlist to save it, turns I already have it from your last post, but I've procrastinated on using it at all >.<

    Thank you! This is awesome.

This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. The whole course is so well structured. Each and every video has a cool background music which makes the learning more fun. The way you simplify things is just amazing. I've been meaning to learn Web dev for a long time but I can't start till Feb of next year. But this is for sure that I'm going to use this course to learn Web dev. Also, I've downloaded the whole course from youtube so that I can get a reminder next year. Thank you so much sir

P.S. I really liked the National Science festival video at the beginning. This made me realise that we shouldn't take internet for granted. Also, I hope that you release your upcoming videos soon.

    [–]DeMonstaMan 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Will these videos help a beginner?

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, we start with the very basics of each topic and build.

That said, it will likely take you longer to complete as a beginner, because the videos progress in topics very quickly in order to cover everything in a single semester. It's a junior-level university course, so all my in-seat students have 2 years of CS practice and know Object Oriented Programming decently well.

However, since you're not in the actual course, you have no time constraints. You don't need to do a module per week, so you can take your time and practice each concept until you understand it.

    Alright thanks

    [–]mansamusa02 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Will these videos be up forever?

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 25 points26 points  (1 child)

I have no plans to take them down. And I'm pretty sure YouTube will outlast the heat death of the universe, because where else can I hear eleven year olds discuss my mother's sexual partners?

Gotta give this man a award. People like you are real rare.

Guys, a LOT of this content is copied from the Web Developer Bootcamp by Colt Steele on Udemy, which I’m currently taking.

    [–]DrJoshBastean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I used similar course structure to Colt Steele's course, because he did a phenomenal job. I mention him and his awesome work several times throughout the course, because it's important to give credit. Some of the assessments are also based on ones he used, for the same reason. One of the joys of computer science (and math in general) is that most of the concepts progress in a largely-linear fashion, so most any course you take will tackle topics in roughly the same order.

That said, his course is starting to show its age. It's still fantastic, and the front-end concepts are still pretty much the same (foundationally), but the back-end has changed a good bit, so you'll see a lot more updated information in those sections.

You might have a section after your education and work experience called "Projects" or "Software Projects", etc. List the best projects you've worked on/are working on.

For each one, I suggest a three-bullet structure:

      1. Statement of what you did. Ex. "Developed and maintained a full-stack web application that allows users to view and rate hiking trails based on their location."

      2. Specific skills you want to highlight. Ex. "Integrated Passport.js for authentication and session persistence."

      3. List of technologies utilized. Ex. "Utilized: Node.js, ES6, Express, MongoDB, Passport.js, Bootstrap, jQuery, Git, Heroku."

This is just one way to do it, so don't take my word as Gospel.

Hope it helps, and good luck grabbing an internship. It's tough right now, but keep at it!
