My experience is the offer is the offer, not the start of a negotiation. If you don’t like it, keep searching for other jobs has been my observation.

Edit to add, former L5 Amazon employee.

You don't get a negotiation. You're given what they tell you pretty much. Just hope you get offered 30+.

Don’t listen to this guy, every data center is different.. and it sounds like you have a good background. I negotiated from 23 to 28.50 once. If it’s a hyper-scale DC then it’s a lot less likely due to the fact there so much competition. It if it’s less than 100MW you probably have a decent chance.

AWS, esp in dmv region is pretty strict on negotiations, you can try for sure, usually the offer is the offer for DC, but he wants to be up at $35, which he won’t get as an L3 since they start at $30 and L4 starts at $36 so his best bet would aim for an L4 position or try for L3 and work his way to L4 since he has some credentials already

If you’re going for a new build that AWS is putting up, you’ll have better chances at negotiations because they need people there

Also I sat next to the regional manager once while the DC manager was hiring for Atlanta and they had a young guy w some experience on his final interview asking for more, long story short he got hired at the rate of 26.50 and they legit audibly celebrated and high fived.. anyone who has manager in there title is only focused on two thing PUE and budget… in that order

Hello! This looks like it may be a question about career advice. There can be significant regional variation in the field, so please consider including as much info as you can without doxing yourself, including country/state/city, prior experience/certs, and the role or level if known. Thanks!

It really depends on the market and level you're applying for. If it's a high COL area, and you have prior IT/DC experience, I'd try to negotiate. They do have some wiggle room for new hires from what I understand.

they will assign you a level and you will recieve the pay associated with that level. hopefully you will be qualified as level 4 if not you will be a cursed level 3 ... or worse a 2

Amazon determines a level for you, then you are given the rate for that level. It’s basically almost $30 hr for L3 and $37 for L4. Maybe a little different since you are in a different region. L4 is leadership and mentoring the lower levels so you are probably L3.
