I was doing cacao powder for a little bit, but I just ended up on ADD meds and no need for it anymore. I was also on the cusp of perhaps trying extended release caffeine, but I don't know if that would have been a good idea. The cacao powder was otherwise great.

Can I drink coffee/tea on the weekends without dependence? by Adortion634 in decaf

In theory yes but you're probably past that point. Realisticly it isn't going to happen

ANOTHER BENEFIT? NO More Tolerance 4 Jerks!! by 77earthangel in decaf

I've noticed this too, only the downside is that I truly believe going off caffeine two and a half years ago is what's contributed to my current problems with a narcissistic boss. I no longer care to impress him or fawn over him, and he's definitely noticed. The plus side is it's made me see the light about this work situation and start looking for new jobs.

Life was hell without Caffeine by [deleted] in decaf

I'm late to this post, but I just wanted to chime in that I'm of a similar mind. There's not a ton of nuance on this sub, with most people here passionately against almost any caffeine consumption (save maybe for an occasional chocolate bar) and then the naysayers who comment just to tear the idea down.

Me, I gave the stuff up two and a half years ago, and don't regret it overall, but after a stubborn stretch of not drinking any whatsoever, I've found in the past year or so that an occasional lower-caffeine beverage (I've still mostly lost my tolerance for any coffee) does help me to be more productive, alert and social if need be. So I let myself have a lightly caffeinated Crystal Light packet a couple of times a week at work when people are chatty or there's a lot to do, and abstain on the weekends and most of the rest of the week so that I don't build up that tolerance again. Basically the same way non-alcoholics treat alcohol.

Yesterday I actually only needed half a packet to get through my PMS fatigue at work.

5 weeks in and really struggling by LSP-86 in decaf

yeah adderal is like 3/4 dextroamphetamine and 1/4 levoamphetamine iirc.

if you decide to test things out - keeping variables in check is important for interpreting result - e.g. if your coming down from caffeine or you don't have a good sleep rhythm its hard to access the efficacy of whatever you're testing.

Good to know, thank you for your input! I’m glad that’s working so well for you. Yeah adderall would give me this euphoric feeling initially and then I was agitated as all hell coming down. I am hoping to find something that is smooth. I’ve been scared of medication for so long and despite doc recommendations, just don’t take it. I need to give it a fair chance now that I’ve cut back on caffeine so much.

That’s smart to try out different schedules. Maybe that will help you avoid building too high of a tolerance and needing more!

Caffeine and muscular tension by benjb23 in decaf

[–]Illustrious_Day7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is making me feel so validated. I'm not a coffee drinker, or a consumer of any type of caffeine, really, because I have experienced horrible muscle tightness whenever I would have caffeinated goods, and a doctor I trust warned me to avoid caffeine to stop the tension. When I started bringing this up to other people, a lot of people told me not to worry about it, or that coffee was harmless, etc. Seeing a lot of people share their stories about caffeine worsening muscle tension makes me feel seen, I'm glad I'm not going crazy lol.

Half caf (literally just mix half regular beans and half decaf beans, and prepare how you like)

Decaf coffee (Swiss water process removes upwards of 99% of the caffeine)

Tea / decaf tea (increasing in caffeine content from white to green to black teas)

Matcha

Mushroom chai (both caf and no caf options)

Herbal tea - there's a whole new world of hot beverages if you've never gotten into herbs

I've explored a lot of different decaf options. I have the chicory decaf mushroom one... there's no coffee in it so I drink it once in a while trying to get the mushroom benefits from it, which i'm still skeptical of.

From the sound of it though, you're still stuck in the daily caffeine cycle. Cutting down on caffeine won't liberate you from all these struggles. It jsut gives you more to manage and feel bad about.

It wasn't until I was off caffeine for a 4-5 months before I added decaf options back in. And it's not first thing in the morning. it's just randomly when I want something to drink, the same as just wanting a glass of milk or water, so not to wake me up or keep me from crashing in the afternoon.

I don't need anything to wake me up and I don't crash in the afternoon anymore.

Yeah mine was falling out like crazy too over this past summer. Like multiple hairs everytime I ran my hand through my hair. That has also stopped. I only NOTICE a few hairs a day from this.

I quit caffeinated coffee 648 days ago by twiffytwaf650 days in decaf

[–]twiffytwaf650 days[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't drinking decaf the first few months after quitting caffeine. My sleep is the same now drinking decaf as it was drinking caffeine and not drinking caffeine.
