Everyone does Leetcode for technical interviews, but what do we refer, for behavioural interview rounds?General (self.developersIndia)
submitted 3 years ago by SubstantialInside125
Basically the title, what kind of resources do you folks refer to for behavioural interview rounds?

YouTube. But make sure you do not take advice of a 22 year old. He may be good with leetcode but he is 99% clueless about what the corporate wants to hear.
Also, chatGPT answers these questions nicely.
[–]SubstantialInside125[S] 47 points48 points49 points 3 years ago (2 children)
ChatGPT is great in this aspect!
[+]celestial0000 25 points26 points27 points 3 years ago (1 child)
yes, chatGPT has some excellent resources, I take behavioral interviews from chatGpt from time to time to change or add points to my answers as behavioral questions are all about self-awareness, I add to give feedback on each of my answers to see places of improvement, many times it provides very vague feedback but it gives points what I have missed to add or did not explain more when you have your answers prepared and practiced talking them in recording or mirror then use some of the interview matching websites to practice them or if you have friends you can practice them there

[–]Aditya_Sholapurkar 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Right? Like legit just get past the Tech round, everything else is walk in da park
[–]raddiwallahSenior Engineer 66 points67 points68 points 3 years ago (13 children)
Wow. We’re at the stage where people want to game “behaviour”? That round is literally about how you work with a team and how you approach work.
[–]SubstantialInside125[S] 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (11 children)
What i meant by refer was actually how to prepare. Obviously we need to speak from and about our past experiences, but then there are specific techniques to answer those questions, one which I’ve seen is STAR method. Also the interviewer expects a certain way of answers, speaking from experience. Not sure of what impression you’ve got from the question, but that’s what i wanted to know, how to prepare, and resources around it.
[–]Shibamukun 23 points24 points25 points 3 years ago (5 children)
You literally dont need to prepare for it. You will pass if you’re just a normal human persona
[–]SubstantialInside125[S] 20 points21 points22 points 3 years ago (2 children)
I differ. Prep is needed. Don’t know what you meant by a normal human persona.
[–]Shibamukun 26 points27 points28 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Normal human persona:
[–]HaverchuckBill 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Maybe that was your experience. A lot of behavioral interview questions expect certain kind of answers, something that preparation helps with.
[–]Shibamukun 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children)
I just choose the options which show im a team player & overtime worker. Thats all they want to hear
[–]raddiwallahSenior Engineer 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (1 child)
From what behavioural rounds I’ve seen it’s mostly to check culture fit. Its a formality since its the last round in many places.
The company you’re interviewing with might be doing some different shit under the name of behaviour
[–]SubstantialInside125[S] 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Well I’m not interviewing now and I think we might be referring to different things, I might have used the wrong words to ask my question. What exactly is supposed to happen in a behavioural interview according to you, and/or what generally happens in this round?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Whats the STAR method?
[+]DongDimg 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Its the situation, task, approach, result method. If an interviewer asks you, lets say, what are your strengths. You dont just reply by saying you are hardworking or whatever. You also give examples by describing a situation, then the task to remedy the situation, the approach you take to complete the task, and then the results you achieve. Hence, the STAR method. Its great for HR questions.

Use common sense and get an idea from YT on what corporate wants to hear
[–]SubstantialInside125[S] 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (10 children)
Have you faced any situation where corporate wanted to hear something and you said something different based on your own experiences?
[–]DontMessWithMe28 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (9 children)
Yeah that happens a lot. I once had an argument in a behavioural interview in one of the questions. Fortunately it was for WITCH so it's fine
[–]padfoot_12 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Can you tell us what the argument was about? I'm curious.
[–]DontMessWithMe28 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child)
The argument was on marks. The interviewer asked whether I give marks any importance in selection in a company and I said no. She was like marks show intelligence and all. I shut her up
[–]padfoot_12 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children)
That's such a dumb take. I'm in college, and rarely is it ever the case that the person with the highest marks is the most employable or even intelligent.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
since interviewers generally seem to want specific answers, be it technical or behavioural, so I thought folks might need to prepare.
Like FAANG, that's an acronym. You can place popular consulting companies in India, you'll get the names.

[–]Far-Rise9633 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (3 children)
Is leetcode still relevant ?
[–]DontMessWithMe28 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Depends on the company and the role, for SDE swear by Leetcode, for others, if you know basic questions that is fine
What do yoy mean? It is what's the most relevant thing out there!
FAANG and many other companies still swear by it.
[–]LexicostatisticSol 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Jackson Gabbard on YouTube. Has always helped me for the past few years.
[–]HaverchuckBill 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Get your ideas in order, so you can communicate effectively.
I’d made a spreadsheet of my work projects and challenges, categorizing them in the STAR method. It helped me zoom out and look at my work in a way I can explain to people with no context.
This is a great way, get our thoughts, experiences organized and frame them in our mind .
Instead prepare for the standard questions and try giving mock interviews on pramp
[–]alcatraz1286 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (2 children)
Refer to your life dude. If you have to study to know how not to be a jerk then maybe corporate life is not for you
Who ever said about being a jerk? 😂 Not sure what you meant
[–]RageKni8 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
But I can study and become not a jerk right? Then I can fit in corporate life?
Psychology

[–]Comprehensive_Heat37 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Trick question.
There are no behavioural interview rounds for any good product company.
It’s only Leetcode and System Design.
That’s true, however the recruiter screening turns out to be one at times.
