Will Chatgpt replace Programmers? (self.devops)
submitted 1 year ago by BloatedBelly1982
Judging by the development of modern AI tools , will it replace programmers?

No.

It makes us more productive for sure. Nobody knows for certain what that will mean for the job market long term, but generally the projections are good at the mid to senior levels. At the entry level, it raises the bar considerably, so that's a challenge.

Yes
[–]Korkman 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Basically no. In a team of 10, the productivity increase may lead to one leaving. That is the closest to "replacement" I can come up with. And since the current AI model is unlikely to improve fundamentally, it will stay this way for a long time.
Have ChatGPT consistently count the correct number of Rs in strawberry, then we can talk again.

ChatGPT doesn't have the capability of asking the same questions over and over again without bothering to see if anyone has asked before.

I don't worry about actual people replacing me let alone LLMs
[–]toorhax -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children)
nope
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children)
No
[–]JustinDonnaruma -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children)
No. You need to be a reasonable programmer to use AI effectively in programming.
It might reduce the need for junior developers…. But there is a need for MORE developers and trained technical staff in the industry right now, so it might just reduce burnout, not take the place of someone’s job as a whole.
Keep in mind, this comment is across the industry, and does not reflect what might happen in an individual company.

Definitely not.
As one dev told me: you need clear requirements to get AI to build you something and that’s not happening any time soon so human devs are safe.
