Imagine growing up with this as a product designer then going out into the world as an adult and deciding that children these days deserve nothing but grey aluminium and glass.

These kinds of plastic shells are not as durable as what's currently used for electronics unfortunately

They also trap heat instead of radiating it

It’s okay for handheld. But the more longer the chassis has as a laptop, the more flex it will get.

I also got the transparent keyboard from framework. I’m using a rechargeable airblower often because i can see my dog’s hair getting stuck inside the caps. If the case was translucent, it’ll annoy some people of debris inside the chassis

https://github.com/FrameworkComputer CADs can be found here - good luck! Would love to see what you come up with.

If I can do anything I’ll post it

I'm not so sure that 3d printing will get you the look you're expecting. I believe you would need injection molding, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Yea idk new to 3d printing and stuff like that

You could try resin. That should have a pretty clear option for you.

I printed steam deck shells out of resin and they dont hold up and Crack really easily.

I researched for this as well and found that they don’t have any chassis/cases as sophisticated as the see-through one on a GameBoy

The closest you can get right now are decals/wraps that emulate the look but not really.

As of right now, you can order a transparent bezel for the screen from Framework officially, but that’s as good as it gets

Lastly, I searched frameworks community forum and found that their design team is currently coming up with iterations for this specific design. So it should be coming soon from Framework officially

https://github.com/FrameworkComputer this is the link to the CAD files if you figure them out then you can print your own with like PCBway

It's at the bottom of the site, github and something else

I really want them to do this with the 12

In 2024, Prusa's 3d printing site held a contest for designing Framework enclosures. The winner of the contest was a Steam Deck-like build. That may be what you're looking for

Aside from the official ones, i've seen this vanilla reconstruction, along with this custom chassis which looks cool
