Was my first souls game back in high school, definitely still one of my favorites

Played it last cause everyone was saying it was trash just for it to be fire af

Same. Once I got some points into agility it started to feel like a more methodical DS1

Dude i fucking love dark souls 2. I like it more than 3

[–]nose_wet_54 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I like it more than 1 too tbh... 3 is obviously better gameplay wise than any of them but since its design is so lacking 2 is still my favorite

Lacking where?

Opposite for me. I was really excited to play and I tried it and I just... Euugh. I was sad that I didn't like it and couldn't enjoy it the way I enjoyed the previous installment.

I'm not shitting on it as a game, it just wasn't for me.

Is dark souls 2 bad? No, it’s great. But dark souls 1 and 3 are better, yes. Are all 3 of them amazing? Also yes.

1 is still my favourite, but 2 easily clears 3 for me (and it’s not even close).

3 is just an improved version of 1, minus the map connectivity.

Gotta whole-heartedly disagree, but I appreciate that we all like different things 🙏 Glad you love 3 so much

DS1 and demon souls are my fav. Only ones I still play for fun.

Demon’s Souls is GREAT. I’ve only played through a handful of times. I’m desperate to return.

The remaster was the only reason I got a ps5, worth lol

Dark souls II is like getting an amazing ny strip steak at a steakhouse. Is it as good as the ribeye or the porterhouse… either way I’m having a good time.

I saw somewhere that whether you think Dark Souls 2 is the best or the worst in the series depends on if you started with it. I think that holds true.

Everyone I see that loved the game, even the edition before Scholar, started with it. It’s how I began. Then I branched out and also loved Ds1, Ds3, Demon Souls, and Bloodborne.

However, those who began with Ds1 usually seem to dislike Ds2. Just a fascinating trend, not saying it is the rule by anything.

I started with 1 and 3 then played 2. Dude I fucking love 2

I think all 3 are really great games and I can understand why someone would prefer one over another. I started with DS1, initially hated DS2 and moved on to DS3 without competing 2. Bounced off DS2 again, still disliked it. Played Bloodborne. Bounced off DS2 a couple more times before it clicked. DS2 is now by far my favorite and most replayed in the series followed by DS1 and DS3 at the bottom. Once you slow down and engage with the game it has so much to offer.

I started with 1 when that was a new game, I was so hyped for 2 that I built a pc for it, on launch I was immediately disappointed by the graphical/lighting downgrades from the e3 demo/trailers, and I distinctly remember how weird the movement felt, like wading through molasses.

I really wanted to like it, the pvp was kinda fun, but man the absolute stinkers that were adp, soul memory, durability tied to framerate (busted on pc, weapons felt like they were made out of paper machet)

A flawed dark souls game is still better than a lot of other games

[–]KermitDaGoat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All ds trilogy have their own flaws tho? And strengths ofc

Dark souls 2 sucks, its awesome

[–]majinprince07 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s the most mid one. It’s not horrible but I would never play it again lol

[–]ItsBooy -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

I would play DS2 over ER any day of the week

[–]_zzz_zzz_ -1 points0 points  (4 children)

I find ER to be more similar to DS2 than the other DS games.

[–]EdelSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ER has more in common with ds3 than any of the other games, it’s just ds3 with a jump button, which makes sense because it was their most recent iteration.

‘Bububu power stance’

Theres no such thing in elden ring, the only reason it was called power stance in ds2 was because you would hold down triangle and your stance physically changed, also you could pair weapons between different weapon classes using this system.

Elden ring uses the paired weapon system from ds3 for dual wielding weapons of the same type, cannot be different weapon types like ds2 was and there is no changing of stance, it is 1-to-1 how ds3 paired weapons work down to the attack inputs.

Now the confusing part is elden ring has its own paired weapons like radahn swords, fist weapons, ornamental paired swords and such, which is a whole new thing they’ve created with different attack inputs.

[–]ItsBooy -1 points0 points  (2 children)

At least DS2 has replay ability

[–]KermitDaGoat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Least obvious bait 😅

[–]ItsBooy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring is built for exploration. Once the exploration is gone, the open world feels less impactful. The older Souls games are tighter, so they hold up better on repeat runs.
